Alittle while ago we were quizzing Suzanne about being self sufficient, and the question came up about what wild produce was obtainable in WV.Mushrooms being the main contender, apart from Deer,Wild Turkeys,Fish,Crawdads et al.

Having little to do yesterday ,I googled “Edible Fungi in Virginia” and was surprizes to see specific reference to WV.

There is a book available,”Mushrooms of West Virginia &Central Apppalachians” giving all the types and photograps for positive identification.

Further there is another book mentioned “Edible Plants” covering ,Plants,Fruits,Tree's”Foraging Pictures” covering Edible/Inedible/Medicinal/Poisonous.

May be a good winter read and next year, think of all the extra goodies you can collect with confidence. You may never need to go into town agin!Laugh

There are LOTS of edible things in our woods, along with many things which will kill ya!  Folks have to be verrrrrry careful 'round these parts.

I have seen morels in the wild, and some unbelievably gorgeous other fungi.  Always fascinating.

We have shaggy mane mushrooms here on our property. The chickens LOVE them! I would be very careful eating muchrooms from the wild, however. Make absolutely sure you know what you are looking at.

I would like a book like that for this area, just in case we are in a spot where we have to forage for food. You never know…
