Propping tall flowers

What do you do with flowers that topple over because they are so tall?  I have some daisy-type flowers that are pretty much just lying on the ground because they are too tall and spindly to stand upright.

A few thin stakes with fishing line strung between them sort of fencing in the flowers and giving them something to lean on?

We have acquired a bunch of different types of stakes over time.  Most are best described as bent heavy gauge wire, of varying heights, with a loop at one end which slips around the stalk of the drooping flower and the other end pushed into the ground.  These are commercially available at garden centers and discounts stores.  They are also easy to replicate if you have some heavy wire and something to bend it with.

Some of my gardening friends use everything imaginable to prop up their perennials but most are placed early in the growing season so that the plant grows through it and the device becomes hidden.    We're talking everything from old grill grates to round tomato cages to refrigerator shelves to loops of wire stapled on top of short wooden stakes.

Good luck, Shells!  It can be fun finding the best way to prop up your plants!

I thought about tomato cages … but it is too late.  I guess I will rig something up when I have time.  Now, help me remember to put the cages out next year.

Bamboo!  That's what I was trying to think of when I said stakes.  I found some at the garden center in green that blend in with the plant stems.  If the flowers aren't too heavy the fishing line strung between them holds the flower heads up without being obvious.  (That does sound like a support bra, doesn't it)

It's been one of those days (weeks!) and you made me laugh.  Thanks, I truly needed that.  Just imagine how that look would go over at a beach wedding! I'll bet no one else would have one like it.

Check out Big Lots, ladies.  They have hula skirts and coconut shell bras.  They were compelling, but I managed to leave the store without either…

I suppose speaking of supporting implants is close enough to supporting plants,hee-hee-hee!

Life is too important to be taken too seriously.

ShimmyThe best thing about coconut bras is that no one can see there is nothing in them.  I buy most of my bras pre-boobed.  LOL  It would almost be worth the trip to go to biglots with Pete.  They could make extra money by selling tickets on the side.  LaughYesLaughYesLaughYes

My budget plan is NOT getting a cart when I go to the store.
