I planted rhubarb for the third time. It finally grew! Then something ate it. Will it come back next year? It started with the leaves and then I think my rooster ate the stems. I finally found the perfect spot and had it growing, and now this. Help! hissy-fit

Yes it will come back.

I finally have my rhubarb in a spot where it will stay, many times I replanted it..it died of then…but started again.

Now I have one more plant to move..from my garden to my friends…and then hubby and his lawn mower came by….and gone was the rhubarb for my friend.

But it will start again, you might cover it with something though, that still lets the light in but , so your rooster can't touch it anymore.

I've started some from seed!  Talk about having to baby something!  I have to keep it shaded in our afternoon sun so it won't burn up until it is big enough to hold it's own.  I also have to water it at least every other day!  It is only about 3-4" high!  I've got more started that are less than 1"….they are still in the garden house!

If I learned something today, the day wasn't a waste!

I LOVE my rhubarb! I have a long row of it. I made 5 gallons of wine with it this year :-)

It's a heavy feeder so it will need a lot of manure. Once it gets established it's pretty hardy.

Oh, that rooster!  I love my roosters, (or at least, the ones that don't end up in the oven because they ripped the hens up or wouldn't stop attacking little kids) but they can be SO irritating! grrr
