Mother Earth News put Johnny's on top and Baker Creek at third but both are excellent.  Also have had great results with Clear Creek Seeds.  Very easy to work with.

I took that survey and copied their list of seed vendors. It was very informative!

In Canada, I prefer William Dam Seeds out of Ontario. They offer regular and organic seed choices as well as some heirlooms, but the things that I like the best are the selection (they have some oddball varieties…I like unique things), the prices and that they don''t treat any seed they sell with Captan or Thiram or things of that sort. That goes a long way with me!

One thing to always take into consideration when purchasing any seed, is do you want a hybrid that has been modified over and over again to make it look perfect, bigger, etc. Cheaper, yes they are, but with heirloom seeds you only have to buy them once. They are pure, no crossing them to get something else..its been that way for hundreds of years?

I prefer heirloom.I have grown heirloom for over 35 years. I have grown my husbands grandmothers tomato, from the Ozarks here in the north. I grow about 20 varieties of heirloom tomatoes. I save my seeds every year. I can taste their sweetness just thinking about it. I have had gramma's seed for nearly 40 years and she had it for over 60. All my tomato seeds are heirloom. My neighbors and I exchange all our other heirlooms. We are always excited to try something new to pass on to friends and family members.

Some think there isn't a difference except for price. Any heirloom grower will beg to differ. I am on countdown, getting my seeds out, looking over last years garden chart to see what I will put where. It will be time soon to start some seeds under lights.

My rosemary, stevia and starts of french tarragon that wintered over in my kitchen have had a growth spurt these last couple weeks. Though we are in the middle of winter, spring is just around the corner. snuggle

I also use as many heirloom seeds as possible and save my own  from year to year. Besides tomatoes seeds I plant pumpkin lettuce and radish seeds that I saved from the year before
