OfflineI am waiting for the phenyl whatever it's called to appear in my mailbox. After I get that, I will be making my first 2lb of soap. For my birthday my hubby made me a super nice soap mold. Well, he made two of them. The first one was plywood and he didn't like it, so he went and got some kind of other wood. I figured, since I was so new at it, I should probably use the caustic tester the first few times and NOT take off the 1st 4 layers of my hubby's skin. He approved.
Cheesecave….I just recieved the regulator but that's it. I can post a pic of that..hahahah! Ok, I'll show the whole cheese cave move in, setup and chronicle my first batch of cheese. Everything should be showing up at my house by the last week of September (took so long because I NEVER pay for shipping if I can help it!). It will be my first atttempt at blogging.

OMG, Kellyb. I'm furiously jealous of that soup!!!! Hopefully that's me doing that next year. :D How did you dehydrate the corn? Just cut it off the cob, or did you blanch it first? Corn's about to go out of season, and I'd love to get some stored up.
MrsFuzz you give me to much credit. I wait until the 16 oz bags of veggies go on sale at the grocery store then fill my cart. I come home, cut the top off the bag and dump them onto my Excal's trays. One bag per tray and then dry them. I can fit about 4 lbs of mixed veggies in a quart jar when dried. I love having dried veggies on hand. Last night I got home late so I made my version of shepherd's pie; a jar of canned chicken, 1 jar of turkey stock, a large handful of dried mixed veggies, a handful of dried carrots, dried onions and garlic. I rehydrated the veggies in some of the stock while I was heating it. The other half of the stock I thickened to make gravy. Pulled a bag of frozen mashed potatoes from the freezer and Voila, dinner. DH and DD chowed down so they must have been happy.
I predict you'll be making up your own dinners way before next year. Post what you do so we can all learn and be inspired.

This is my beef jerky recipe. Using round steak cut into thin strips. (usually about one package)
4 TBS soy sauce
4 TBS worcestershire sauce
1TBS tomato sauce
1 TBS ginger root grated
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
2 garlic cloves smashed
marinate for 4-6 hrs and dehydrate overnight.
Sometimes I add a little cayenne pepper. Then I put in baggies and refrigerate. My son loves it.

THANKS CATHY!
I can't wait to try this one. I used a recipe from Alton Brown yesterday and it turned out so yummy that it'll be eaten too quick. Is round steak a cheaper cut? I used a sirloin tip roast, it was a little on the high side….
