I went to the American Legion this morning and I got a crash coarse of making large quantity buns. It was pretty easy-used a hobart mixer to knead everything. Made a lot of cinnamon rolls with vanilla icing and maple icing . They store their left-over icing in the refrigerator from the week before in 2 large tupperware bowls. For the vanilla icing they use-canned milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and butter. For the maple they use maple extract. I love the idea of using the canned milk, makes it alot more richer in taste. Yum!  wave

Did you use their recipe, Alanna or the Grandmother bread?

You are all so energetic!  I won't be home until after 6:00, so I think I'll start some refrigerator sweet rolls tonight and then bake them off tomorrow morning. My sister and I are going to see an old friend of my mother's tomorrow. She'll enjoy having a treat.

I found an interesting recipe for a type of Soda Bread, but I'm all out of AP flour.  I'm going to try it tonight with bread flour… who knows how it will turn out, but I feel the need to bake!  I'll try it tonight, then again another day with AP flour, then post it in Farm Bell if it's any good.  (yeah yeah, I know, how COULD I run out of all purpose four?!?!?!  Believe me, it's been insane around here!)  That's just the way it goes somedays!  I'll try a little invention.

I've just finished making bread for a friend who just gave birth to a baby girl.

I am freezing the bread after shaping it, that way she can thaw the bread, let it raise and have fresh bread without all the pre-work.

Just brownies from the Hersheys recipe.  I made them from the recipe for the first time last week, and I will NEVER buy a box mix again.  I would love to make some bread but I have too much to do.

2 loaves of apple bread, one "box mix" of cranberry/white choc chip bars, and mincemeat(less)-filled cookies which were delicious, but HUGE.

It snowed all day here in Central PA – good day to bake!

AND prepared 4# of ground beef/venison mix for sloppy joes for church luncheon tomorrow.

I was having a craving for hot biscuits and honey……so I whipped up some Quick Mix Biscuits (used yogurt) and made drop biscuits…..almost as fast as opening one of those old cans!

I had a 13 1/2 hour day yesterday involving elder care issues. Today I've baked Honey Cracked Wheat bread, oatmeal bread, and a small batch of marionberry jam from frozen berries. Kneading the bread and smelling the heavenly aromas is very soothing after a stressful day. Now I'm going to go over to Farm Ball Recipes and look for something new to bake. One of the nice things about baked goods is that they usually freeze beautifully. Today will give me plenty for my freezer.
