OfflineThe oven is on the blitz….pilot light thingy fell off (or was forced off when I had my fix-it family working on it over the weekend when the oven shut off 1/2 way through roasting the turkeys!) and have not braved googling it yet to find out what I need to do.
BUT I wanted to make a turkey pot pie…have tons of leftover turkey and pie crust dough left. (Now all in the freezer waiting for the oven to be fixed!
)
P.S. This topic is pinned for easier finding in the future

OfflineI made a ton of sugar cookies today and got roll refrigerator cookie dough waiting to be baked in the morning. I volunteered to help our women s auxiliary bake cookies for their bake sale this weekend. I am one busy baker and it would be a terrible time for my oven to go on the fritz! I hope you get yours fixed Cindy.

OfflineGot home too late from work and student projects to be able to do anything tonight, but I made my first batch of pepperoni rolls…great bring-alongs for lunches. A keeper recipe. I'm going to deal with some spotty bananas and make banana bread in the morning, a batch (my first) on Grandmother Bread since it turned out so beautifully for the pepperoni rolls. I was intrigued by the brownie cookies on the blog so I got the ingredients to make both those and my killer ginger snap cookies. I'm going to make lasagna tomorrow night too, to use up some cheese that started life intending to grow up into cottage cheese, failed miserably, and pretty much ended up being tangy lactic cheese…we eat it on crackers, but it will be good in lasagna!
And then @miki got going up there and had to go and mention the chocolate banana bread and I"m intrigued…anyone have a recipe to share?
Went over FBR to see if someone had posted one, but alas, no.
I want you all to know that I'll be forever grateful we don't discuss diets on the forum and site. Thank you!!!! Sweet dreams ladies and gentlemen!

OfflineI don't have a recipe for chocolate banana bread, BUT I am thinking you could add cocoa for some of the flour in most recipes and get a chocolate version. Was going to try it on the cranberry bread recipe on FBR, but decided to wait until I did a second batch of it to experiment. Which I haven't yet. Maybe Thur/Fri.

OfflineI know, chocolate chips AND cocoa! Overkill? Maybe I'll split the batch and try one of each! OK--off to make the house smell good! Thanks for the advice!

Me too! Well, not tonight, I'm totally loopy, but in the morning! I still have a bunch of spotty bananas to use up. Thank you so much!!
I ended up making my first straight-up batch of the Grandmother Bread recipe today. I have NEVER had a better loaf of bread come out of my oven. It got big raves from everyone!

OfflineI will post in the FBR our family favorite banana bread recipe ever … Double Chocolate Banana
Bread which is much like chocolate cake (thank the butter). Visitors not in the know are usually surprised to find out this sweet bread has banana in it, since the cocoa diguises much of it and the mini chips are such a happy distraction. My elderly mother is my biggest kid for this bread. I have quite a collection of banana bread variations but this is the one that nets the biggest "YES!".

OfflineI love baking! This evening officially starts my Advent and Christmas baking. I've mixed up the p.b. cookie dough and have it chillin' to bake the cookies tomorrow. I'm also baking cranberry muffins this evening.
Besides baking the cookies tomorrow, I hope to bake our weekly batch of bread (along with making homemade pizza).

OfflineI baked Babka yesterday… I think I finally found a recipe that is like our grandmother's. It's not an easy recipe… well, the recipe is easy, but it's time consuming!!! Three rises! I used to watch my grandmother make this all the time when I was small and used to beg to help her knead it. That woman had arms like a blacksmith!!! I have the bowl she used to make it in, a huge crockware bowl and the recipe I used made two regular sized loaves and it wasn't nearly as much as she made so I think she made twice as much as I did, and it was a lot for me to knead.
A very sticky dough, that you don't add flour (at least not much) to in order to get it less sticky, you knead it till it gets smooth. Lots of butter, lots of eggs, some sugar, and raisins.
I'm still experimenting and modifying it to make it more like hers, but it's close! I'll post it when I perfect it for MY taste though!

OfflineNot baking, but amy making Kluski noodles today. Have my wooden clothes rack upstairs, along with my kitchen 'laundry line in a spool' stretched out across the room. So will be drying the pasta this afternoon. Cat will be unhappy, he will be kept in the living room or basement for the duration.

OfflineBaking 2 batches of chocolate chip cookies. One batch done, 5 dz. and the second is in the fridge & will get baked after supper.
Then I will mix up some Mexican Wedding cookie dough…2 batches of it, one w/nuts & one plain. Those most likely won't get baked until tomorrow.
Then it is on to other goodies.
My son & family are in Japan & the grands sent a specific list of "goodies" they wanted for Christmas, so I have to get them all done in time to ship them.
Major request was peanut butter fudge! And they will get a whole wheat banana nut bread & an Amish Friendship cake.
