Had a go-go-go weekend and now I'm home and ready to do some baking.  I'm going to make some brownies for my brother and his fiancee, who put the whole family up for the weekend.  We went down to their town in Oregon to see the bench that my brother put in the local park as a memorial to our father, who died in January.  Lovely bench in a beautiful spot that my brother planted with native plants.  I'll send them some brownies and one of my handmade purses as a thank you.

Spent the first three weeks of May on the road for two business events cross-country with one week inbetween with DH's family … a little home cookin' with SIL but was in major withdrawal by the time we came home about a week ago, near exhausted.  If I ever see another Subway sandwich it'll be too soon and that was the healthiest of quick food to be found near hotels. There's no polite comment possible on convention food.  I actually lost weight!

Yesterday I mixed a double batch of Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies and baked two pans of whopper size cookies (pacing myself here … too easy to eat a pan alone if not paying attention).  Did a Cheese Crust Crab Quiche 2 days ago and just finished that (KA recipe using cheddar powder in the crust, yum!).  Considering home-baked Mac 'n Cheese with sharp cheddar and Asiago for tonite, pricey but a favorite … serious craving for comfort foods when wandering far from home.

Ruthmarie…Those cinnamon chocolate chip oatmeal cookies sound delish!

I am baking a pan of brownies to donate to the Community Cafe ( free meals for the homeless and financially disadvantaged)…And since my 12 yr old grandson is here I will probably bake something else. wink

Belated sympathy for your father, STH. The memorial sounds  beautiful!

Thanks, Murphala.  It was nice, though I found the weekend to be pretty exhausting and emotional, as you might imagine.

You were right, Murphala--I ate some, purely for medicinal reasons, and feel much better now!

I've got strawberries, rhubarb, and blueberries, so I think I'm going to make a crumble out of that for my honey.

Baked Grandmother bread…with unbleached All Trumps bread flour. It's a very different texture than with regular flour. I like both Kinds of flour.

1 large and 3 small loaves of banana nut bread.  Windows are open and the smell of rain and bread are filling the house.  I wish every day was like this.

This recipe was:

one pound of all purpose flour

teaspoon of tablesalt

Tablespoon sugar

teaspoon of instant yeast

one egg plus six ounces of whole milk plus enough water to make 11 ounces of liquid

two ounces of chicken fat or butter melted

Combine everything and mix until uniform. Let rest for twenty minutes  knead lightly without more than a small handful of flour. form into a ball oil it and refrigerate overnight covered and shape the next day before the dough has a chance to warm up. It can rise on the baking sheets.

Bake 375 F for 18 to 20 minute
