I an glad it was not to bad there, when my family was living in the Philippines we had them all of the time. we live close to an active volcano  and after a while it wasn't upsetting but if you have never been through one, it can be very frightening.

Joell, you are right about getting used to the shaking.  But that is so true of anything. When we bought our house we had to sign a waiver on our air space because we live near the airport and we are sometimes in the landing pattern. It was very strange request but we got used to the planes going over that we don't even hear them anymore unless it is really low.  We also live within a couple of miles of a chemical plant that some family members have almost refused to come to our house because of the possibility of it exploding which it hasn't in the 20+ years we've lived here. They have a lot of systems in place to warn the nearby areas of a problem.  Also live within a couple miles of large grain elevator which did explode several years ago.

It's all about being aware to what is going on outside your front door and knowing the precautions that you should be taking.

Amen, so very true, sometimes when I listen to the morning news, I wonder if it is even safe to leave our abode, it is the safest place I know at this point it time.

It is so very cold today, a perfect day to do some baking, I am thinking turnovers. Making the pastry this morning, let it chill for a while and then bake the turnovers this afternoon.

It is Meyer Lemon season. My neighbor gave me about 5 pounds from her tree. I juiced them and zested them. Froze all but enough to make some really wonderful lemon bars.

Baking bread today, I am going to try to add some dried fruit to one loaf, and 3 dozen meatballs for the freezer.

Our drainage ditch down by the road was totally frozen oven and hindering the drainage of our sump pump, our dear neighbor came over with some kind of tool and broke up the ice so the water could run, so knowing how he loves chocolate, I baked some nice dark chocolate cupcakes for him, we are so lucky to have such wonderful neighbors.

Hi Alanna, nice to see you comment again, those cinnamon rolls sound delicious, I hope you win!

Le us know what kinds of cookies you might bake. I am on a bit of a diet right now but Hubby still must be taken care of, so cupcakes are being baked. happy-flower

Up early this morning to bake cookies, 6 dozen heart shaped cookies for Valentines Day. I made the dough yesterday and finished baking them this morning. I will decorate them on Saturday morning and deliver them to our neighbors either later that day or Sunday.

Wish I was your neighbor! It is on holidays that I miss being able to bake desserts the most. We will stick with our fresh strawberries dusted with sifted black cocoa powder. That is permissible on our new way of eating.

I was able to find a vegan chocolate cake that has no sugars and no oils in in. I am planning on that for my birthday cake in March.

I am making whole wheat pitas for sandwiches today. Only ww flour, yeast and water. No oils or sugars added. They store for a few days in the pantry and freeze very well.

I wish you were my neighbor also! I am going to do my best not to eat any of them, I made 2 different kinds of cupcakes earlier this week, dark chocolate ( my fave) and lemon, but I was very good, I didnt eat any of them. I think my pants are a bit looser, or maybe they are just streched out! I am determined!!

I have not been able to use my oven in about a week. Last time I baked, unbeknownst to me, an insulated hot pad stuck to the bottom of my cookie sheet and I baked it for about five minutes at 500 degrees. The plastic insulation melted all over my racks the the bottom of the oven. It was on the verge of flames when I smelled something and went into the kitchen and found the mess. Eau d'smoke and smell of burnt plastic all through the house. It was a lovely day out so opening all the windows and reversing box fans in the windows helped. It was so bad at first I thought I would have to call the non emergency line to our Volunteer Fire Dept. to ask their help with smoke extraction. Probably the only reason I did not call them was because I was very embarrassed at my stupid mistake.

The oven bottom and racks took a lot of scrubbing and then I ran a heavy duty cleaning cycle today to burn off the rest of the residue and plastic. Other than some scorch marks on the bottom of the oven, it looks like nothing ever happened.

Lesson learned. Check the bottom of the pan before you put it in the oven.

Baking energy bars tomorrow in my very clean oven.

Baking bread today and a pineapple pound cake. We have a lot of rain on the way that will be turning to SNOW again! We are not sure about how much we are supposed to get, (we have heard 3-6 inches) but the weather man said we will need our snow shovels---again. I love snow, but this is insane.
