I have apples that need to be used, so I think an apple pie is in order.

It is a cold day here today, not what we were hoping for being the first day of Spring, but a good day for baking bread, one loaf each of wheat and cinnamon raisin and a loaf of banana nut bread bread for my Mom.

Hi Everyone ~ Well, I've been in a baking mood the last couple days.. Made 2 deep-dish pumpkin pies last nite and this morning I made a Earthquake Cake for our Bingo at The American Legion, It's a chocolate cake mix with nuts and coconut at bottom of cake, with a cream cheese filling ... Yummy! Alannachef

Going to do some baking today, it is very cold here and a bit windy. I plan to bake bread, a loaf of wheat and a loaf of cinnamon swirl. We have some neighbors that are just couples and empty nesters, so I hope to bake a couple of half size bundt cakes for them.

Another cool rainy day here, a good day to make a bunch of pepperoni rolls. When I do pepperoni rolls, I make at least 5 -6 dozen, my oldest stepson will come by tonight and and take home at least 3 dozen.

Since I don't have a lot to do today, I am baking. First a pound cake for us using a Mango cake mix and orange mango juice for the liquid, it smells so good, and double chocolate black cocoa brownies with chocolate  chips and toasted walnuts for my Son, who is bringing some bricks for a project that I am working on, and he is picking up some benches that need to be repainted---such a good boy!

Yesterday I baked 2 loaves of white bread, made in my new-to-me KitchenAid mixer using the dough hook for the first time. So much easier! Haven't made bread for a couple years. We finished one loaf in one day! I love my "new" mixer! happy-flower

Not in this heat  Temps in the 90's and heat index 107.  I plan to have pizza, though but will use the grill outside as the oven.  Made it that way a couple of times this week.  1st time wasn't so good (didn't precook the dough long enough).  2nd time met a good rating from the pizza aficionado (12 yr old granddaughter).

I have never made a pizza on the grill. What is your recipe, and any tips on success? Thank you, mamajhk!

I just used my regular pizza crust recipe (actually Suzanne's recipe) and (since I wasn't feeding a large group of people I divided the dough into fourth's) and put it on a cookie sheet (my grill grates not in great shape for pizza crust).  If you have a pizza stone that might work also.  I have one but was just too lazy to use it.  Heated the grill(mine is gas) and then turned off one or two of the burners and precooked the crust about 5 to 10 mins. (same as in the oven) then added the toppings and cooked it about the same length of time as if I was doing it in the oven.  I made the mistake of turning the burners down and therefore my grill wasn't as hot as it should have been.  Watch it edges next to the flame they could become a little crispy. It was mostly just trial and error.  The 3rd time I made it it was not as good as the 2nd time.  I think I had placed it on the shelf in the lid for awhile (I don't recommend doing that).

Years ago I had heard/read/seen that a grill is really just an oven where you have to regulate the temp and I have used it that way occasionally.  Sure helps to  keep the heat out of the kitchen in the summertime and free up oven space at holiday time.

Joell, do you have anything to add?  I think you have made pizza on the grill also.  How do you do yours?

Thanks, mamajhk! I will give it a try. I have always been concerned with a soggy crust. Hopefully with your tips the pizza will be great, and the house much cooler!

So that is where that delicious scent of yeast and cinnamon is coming from. Got me motivated to make bread now.  smile
