This morning I am using up a couple things, a box of spice cake mix from the pantry that needs to be used and some liquid coffee creamer, Pumpkin Spice, that I dont care for, I am using the creamer for the liquid in the mix. I don't like wasting, so if I can find a way to use things, I would much rather do that. I am going to frost the cake with a cream cheese frosting and also use the creamer for the liquid in the frosting.

Well, I tried something that I have never done before and that was to bake a cake in a slow cooker.  According to what I had read it should have cooked in 3 hrs.   Well, it took longer than that and still wasn't completely done.  Chief Taste Tester and I both deemed this an epic fail.  I think maybe if I had used the crock pot I did and used one that allowed the cake to be spread out more it may have had a different outcome.

happy-flowerI have baked a cake in the slower cooker many years ago, my cooker came with an insert that is supposed to be for baking cakes, one try was enough, if you still have your cake, make some pudding and spoon it over the cake and give it a fancy namewink

I thought of that but the cake was/is kind of gummy inside so I think it is toast.  The only thing I really wasted besides the 3 eggs and a little bit of oil was a cake mix that really needed to be gone out of the freezer anyway.  I read some where not to long ago that FAIL means First Attempt At Learning so I will try again.

Baking pies today, pumpkin and mince, I love mince pie and it would not be Thanksgiving for me with out it. I have baked mince pies every year since I was about 13 years of age--that is a lot of pies. Also will bake a couple loaves of bread for sandwiches. I am going to mix the stuffing and make cranberry sauce today as well. It is cloudy and cold with a chance of flurries or freezing rain, a perfect day to spend in the kitchen and fill the house with good smells.

I made a apple and a pecan pie today.  Pretty much everything is prep and ready for crock pots in the morning.  Still have to make the rolls and cook the potatoes and the gravy (although, I will be using the gravy packets that came with the turkey breasts (which are cooked in the the fridge).

I made squash muffins for breakfast today with leftover squash. Just used my old faithful Betty Crocker recipe with less sugar, added the squash, and a dash of cinnamon. I figured the squash is the same consistency as mashed banana which I use a lot in the recipe. Tasted kinda pumpkin-ey. Not bad!

Hi Brookdale, what an excellent idea! I don't have any squash on hand, but I do have a can of pumpkin that needs to be used, I will use your recipe and add some pumpkin pie spice and a few walnuts. Thank you for sharing. I hope your Holiday season is a great one.

Oldest granddaughter and I made a batch of 1/2 oatmeal raisin and 1/2 oatmeal chocolate chip cookies this afternoon.  I also made a batch of Nutella fudge to give to a friend of ours tomorrow.

Last week I lost my Mom. She was, among other thing, and excellent cook and baker. Today I am making a German Christmas Stollen, a favorite of ours. My Mom was an extremely talented woman, and I learned so much from her.

I'm sorry to hear that Joelle. Moms can be very special in their talents they have passed down. Enjoy your Stollen hug

 Hello GrammieEarth, and thank you,

My Mom was a remarkable woman, she had hoped to see her 100th birthday. Her passing was unexpected and very quick. She gave birth to 6 children and that was the only time she was ever in a hospital.

I think of her everyday and the lessons I learned from her and I am so grateful to have had her in my life all these years.

My condolences on the loss of your Mom, Joelle. Sounds like you have many wonderful memories.

I baked Suzanne's Grandmother Bread yesterday using my new-to-me KitchenAid for the mixing and kneading. Worked great! This is a wonderful bread recipe, with many variations to try. Plus the whole house smells wonderful while the bread is baking.

Hello Brookdale, thank you for your kind words.

I am baking bread also, nothing is like that wonderful smell of homemade  bread baking.  Enjoy your mixer and share with us what you are baking. I hope to be doing some more baking tomorrow.

I have some bananas that are past the point of where I like them just to eat them, so I am baking a loaf of banana bread using the recipe that Brookdale gave me. Yummy!

The sun is shining today and we have been outside picking up branches that blew down last night in the 30 mph winds. I am baking shortcakes to go with some strawberries to have later this evening, sort of an early taste of spring.

                                    HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Today I am baking 3 dozen pepperoni rolls to share and some for our dinner tonight. Last evening I made 2 pans of peanut butter fudge in my heart shaped cake pans, those are going to be given to neighbors later this afternoon.
