Baking bread and sandwich buns the morning, and making a pasta salad. The weather is going to be not the best today with storms etc. so I want to make supper easy---just in case.

Actually, youngest granddaughter and I have Nutella Puffs in the oven as we speak.  She had a game she was playing the other day that used a puff pastry type dough so we looked up puff pastry etc and found a recipe that used Nutella (a favorite of her sisters) and have made some for her to take home tonight and some for our dessert here.

Actually, should have done it this morning when it was cooler.  It is in the 80's here today with sunshine and light wind.

Hi mamajhk,

happy-flower        I was just introduced to Nutella last week. I have seen it advertised on TV and in magazines but never tasted it.  It was certainly different from anything that I would have thought of having on my morning toast etc. when I was growing, yum! Like opening a tub of cake icing.  Wished they had that 75 some years ago, although I doubt it would have been "Mom approved" but I would have like it--a lot!

It wasn't around when I was growing up either but after seeing it used on cooking shows, etc. I purchased some and it has become a snack favorite with the granddaughters.  I also use it in fudge sometimes.  But as they say "A little dab with do ya"  It can be awfully sweet.  Couple of the granddaughters are content to eat it right out of the jar. We have put it on Ritz crackers and have dipped pretzels in it.

I have to admit, I put some on a Ritz cracker, and crunchy peanut butter on another and them mooched them together--with a glass of cold milk---excellent!

I am baking another chocolate cake today, it is a bit like a German Chocolate but the filling contains no coconut. Our Nephew is coming for a visit tomorrow and loves chocolate cake.  The filling is made with brown sugar instead of white and I double the amount of pecans (or more).  The cake itself is a very dark chocolate cake. I call it a butter pecan chocolate cake--it is very good.wink

Making bagels this morning, the nearest real bagel shop to us is about 45 miles away in the city we have purchased our bagels there for nearly 50 years, but a bit to far to go unless we happen to be there for some reason. I have never been ab;e to find a real true New York style bagel elsewhere. The ones in the supermarket are nothing more than bread dough, in my opinion, so I will make my own today.

This morning I am baking a chocolate pan cake, it is a quick to bake, small rich chocolate cake and the frosting is made with melted chocolate and heavy cream. For me it is best when it is a day old.

We are so very fortunate to have such wonderful neighbors. Earlier this week, Hubby got his tractor stuck in a ditch and with in moments two of our neighbors were there to help him, so this morning, I made them each a loaf of homemade bread to have with their breakfast.

We are going to have temps in the 90 degree range all this coming week, so anything that involves using an oven will be done in our basement. Up early this morning and baked pineapple cupcakes to take care of Hubby's sweet tooth.

Made cookies this morning.  Forgot that I hadn't cleaned the oven from a spill last week and filled the house with smoke. Used a big fan to get the smoke out.

Too hot to bake this afternoon.

Can't get outside or go anywhere, so I am baking today. A pan of brownies for our Son to take home with him, and a Crack Cake for us--I know--but it is a very good moist cake with a strange name --don't know where the name comes from.

It's too hot to bake or do much of anything else.  Temps are in the 100's today.

Yes, Joelle, it is funny how things get there names. There are several dishes that we call it something other than the correct name.

We have a salad that we call "Aunt Mildred's Salad" which everyone in the family knows exactly which salad you are talking about.  I have seen similar recipes and they call Christmas Salad, etc.

I know just what you are talking about,  I heard a lot about "Metters"s cake" it took a while to find what it really was, but those are the things that keep tradition and memories alive.

This morning I baked shortcakes to go with strawberries I picked up and am working on a couple loaves of bread for my dear neighbor, he was kind enough to pull up some poison ivy for me yesterday, miss ivy and I do not get along at all. happy-flower

Miss Ivy and I do not get along either and my husband and Miss Ivy get along.  He has learned over the years (when he worked construction)  to let me know when he has had contact with Miss Ivy.
