OfflineI need to remove grease from a pizza stone, I thought I had not used this one before, and I want to put it on the floor of my oven. When I looked at this morning, I have used it and it has grease baked into the stone, I tried putting in the oven as is and it smelled up the whole house, I dont plan on using this one again for baking, it is too big for us, can I wash it in the diswasher to remove the grease or can some tell me a better way .

OfflineSTOP! Don't ever use soap on your pizza stone. I used to sell P. chef stonewear. If you use soap on your stone anything you bake will go into that food. Take hot tap water and run it onto the stone until the grease is off and dry it real well. Sounds like your stonewear is really seasoned real well and things should'nt stick to it. If you happened to already put soap to the stone, buy some cresents rolls and spread it over the stonewear and bake it. Then throw this baked cresents away. The soap taste should have baked into the crescent roll. anymore questions,just ask! Alanna![]()

Hello Alanna, thank you for your help– I am not planning on using this particular stone for baking, it is too large for us, I only wanted to keep it in my oven to help maintain temps, I ended up soaking it in some hot soapy water with dawn and then rinsing it well and finishing up soaking it in vinegar water then in plain water. It got rid of all of the oil and grease. I then placed it in the oven for a while, and not it is fine, no smelling up the house.
The stones I will be using are almost black they are so well seasoned. I really don't care how they look, I wash them with hot water when they are cool and dry them off. I don't really have to put any spray or anything with them, everything slides off of them. The new stones I just purchased will have to be sprayed very well before they are used. Alanna![]()

OfflineThanks for the info, Alanna. We just had a minor issue with our stone. A friend of my son's often stays over because DS often gives him a ride home from work. What is it with parents who insist their kids get a job and then are not willing to get them to and from said job? Sorry, I'm venting.
Anyway, said child wants to be a chef. His job ends at 11 at night, my son's job often ends a little before that so they come home and cook. Last night it was some sort of pizza. Chef Boy accidentally made the first batch of dough using confectioner's sugar instead of flour. Oh My!
I scraped the stone as best I could but I can't remember if I used soap on it. I don't think so. This greeted me early in the morning while I was doing corned beef for the crock pot so I wasn't quite awake or focused. When I took something I was baking out of the oven, I put the stone in there to dry. How long must I wait before I use it and what do you spray them with? Just regular cooking spray like PAM? ( I have Aldi's brand.)
Sounds like your home is the local hangout! I know from experience. When I wash my stone I dry it off with a towel, and use it almost immediately. Make sure it is not wet. I know the stones don't like a sudden change of temp, when I was doing my winter shows the tones would be so cold when I would bring them in from the car. I would get them room temp, then bake with them. My stones are over 10 yrs. old and perfectly seasoned.They are good to warm bread up in the oven, love it for pizza. Never put something frozen on the stone or it will crack! Let the frozen food defrost,then bake it. It will be crispy. the stones are wonderful for nut rolls, cream hornes, all kinds of cookies,etc.
