happy-flowerHello, Hubby and I have been doing a good bit of research on coconut oi and the benifits of using it, if you are using it would you kindly post how so, and the benifits there of. I am also interested to know about using it for baking, especially in baking bread and how do you consume it on a daily basis.  The brand I have purchased is Nutiva, and to date the best prices I have found seem to be on Amazon. There are no health food store near us unless we drive to the city, which I prefer not to do. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

                                Thank you.

the reports out there are hard to sift through but i can tell you that i like spectrum from "whole foods " organic virgin unrefined and about $ 8.00 , i use it daily as a face cream, and sometimes as an all over body massage oil, heats in the palm of your hand easily. It absorbs way faster than one might think and it does amazing things to the flavor of regular white rice, if that is in your diet yummy !  turtle

We keep a jar of it on the counter.  Lately we have gotten Puritan's Pride extra virgin.  Sometimes we get organic when we order it.  I most often use it when I do stir fry, especially Thai style.  I also have used it to to scramble eggs although I prefer butter.  Dr. Oz says it makes great lip balm because it doesn't mess up new skin cell regeneration on your lips like the greasy stuff does.

I have tried it in baking sweet breads, for me it produced a rather oily product.  I now use it for a facial cleanser, much like the oil method.  I also use it for my hair, leave it on for about 15 minutes then rinse and shampoo.  I will have to try this in rice, that sounds really good.  Oh,  I have also used it making homemade granola this was very good.  You can also use it on your hair like a hair cream, but use very very little, other wise your hair will look greasy.  Have made lip balm out of it as well.  Just love the way it smells!

I use it for frying and in place of shortning in cooking in general including baked goods. For cooking it is supposed to be able to withstand high temperatures as opposed to olive oil which is better for non-heat uses such as dressings or dishes that aren't heated. (This is due to "chemistry changes" when heated above a certain temp.)
I've also used for skin and even in a recipe for home made deoderant that works great!
I usually purchase the organic Nutiva through vitacost.com for the best price I've found anywhere including the shipping which I either get free or for 4.99 for the whole order. When paying for shipping I do a larger order to get it all for one shipping charge.

happy-flowerThank you, I am hoping that someone with cholestrol and high blood pressure or other issues that has used coconut oil in their daily diet will tell us about their results. I have spoke to a few  people  in the medical field that  give credence to the health beneifits, but I would like to hear it from someone that has really used it on an everyday basis.

JOJO,

I have used coconut oil to fry chicken, and I love that hint of coconut it gives to the flavor.  The brand name escapes me for the moment, but it is an organic virgin coconut oil and I love it!

I have some sitting on my counter that I just bought for lip balm. I paid 4.69 for 28 ounces. At the local Amish store.

My daughter uses it all the time. She says it is much better for her. She tries to eat gluten free so maybe it works well with gluten flours? I know she loves it for dry skin on her feet!

BTW..daughter says the Amish store has way better prices than the health food store.

I wish it were that inexpensive here! 1 litre is about $15 anywhere. It's very good for your hair, being one of the only oils that will penetrate the hair shaft. I'd love to be able to afford it for my hair alone! I occasionally have it for soap making, but usually make soap without it.

We use it for our skin- moisturizing and it helps acne.  A good friend of mine uses it for treating eczema.  It greatly reduces the inflammation.  We love it for making popcorn, etc.

I love it in stirfries and as a skin/hair treatment. The brand I get varies by whatever is cheapest :p but I get the minimally processed unrefined stuff.

I do not like scrambled eggs in coconut oil. Just throwing that out there. Eggs+coconut taste=gross.

I use it for thyroid support.  I take the pills which I get from vitacost.com   I have plenty of energy now.  I have seen research saying in higher doses it helps reverse some alzheimers symptoms.  I got 54 ozs. I think of coconut oil from vitacost for about $20 and use it for lip balm and dry skin care.  Love the stuff!

Where are we going and why are we in a handbasket?

I use organic Coconut Oil for 2 years now. I like Barlean's Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I have Fibromyalgia, IBS, Osteopenia, Chronic Fatigue, RA, ulcers, occasional Candida. Six years ago I was struck by lightning and suffer many side affects yet. I was told by a dear friend how much Coconut Oil could help improve my digestive stystem and my overall health. My immune system was always on the weak side. Since getting struck by lightning, I have little to no immune system. When I get sick or even poison ivy it is extremely exaggerated now due to the lightning affects on my system. I love that the Coconut Oil can strengthen my immune system, help aid my digestive system, and can help absorb calcium, magnesium, vitamins, minerals so much better. It has so many wonderful healing qualities. I have so many uses with the Coconut Oil …from cooking to baking… I use it on my toast instead of butter, to using it to help heal my bruises, I bruise easily. I eat a spoonful each night as well. I am so committed to using Coconut Oil!  :)

Dee58m, My daughter has a lot of the same issues that you do and I guess that is why she uses Coconut oil. I must say she has been doing soooo much better the last couple of months! No wonder she drives quite a ways to buy the stuff!

Miss Judy, this is so good to hear. I have heard only great things about Coconut Oil and its uses. My husband has been bothered with his skin itching on the front lower legs. He decided this week to try Coconut Oil there to see if it makes a difference. :)
