I would like to make a log cabin this year. My daughter wants to make an igloo and give it to some friends…the man of the family is an inuit hunter from Nunavut, Canada. :) I imagine he would enjoy it, and sort of remind him of hunting season back home. It is generally the only time they might make an igloo anymore. One difference from this gift…they use snow…

If these creations work well, I would also like to possibly try these other ideas in the future:

There sure are a lot of ideas here!  Seems like there's something here for everyone's taste or decor.  What a fun thing to make for friends and family, or just to keep the kids occupied some chilly afternoon.

I remember always being disappointed that we couldn't really eat the actual houses.  Aside from being stale by the time they sat out a while, you usually do have to cook them extra so they hold up well anyway.  Our mom used to keep a cookie jar with gingerbread cookies inside that we could actually eat next to the display.

Marshmallows would work well for an igloo…tootsie rolls for a log cabin!  Both easy to notch or carve to size. Not necessarily cost effective for the tootsie rolls and you do MISS OUT on the smell of gingerbread wafting from your kitchen!

Can't wait to get the time to look at the links.  I've made gingerbread / candy houses many times and will soon be at it again :)  Will keep it simple for the almost-two and almost-three year old grandchildren!

Good luck and have fun!
