Did you know that three Tablespoon's of Cocoa and 1 tablespoon of oil are the equivalent to one square of unsweetened baking chocolate?

So, if you know of other exchanges, list them here! It helps, in case you are out of the “real thing”.

Did you know you can use plain yogurt to sub for sour cream??? I use plain yogurt, to replace sour cream on my baked potatoes if I am out of sour cream, and I use it in my bean burritos, if I am out of it…and I use it for dips – replace the sour cream in dip recipes with yogurt!!! Anything!

I was on a hunt for the chili seasoning mix you buy in the store (for making the canned chili) and found this fabulous site for MANY homemade seasoning mixes

Cool site Cindy!

I watched them make homemade chili powder on Food Network last night and it was very similar to the recipe on this site.

Don't forget to remove the seeds from the dried chili peppers though, depending on the amount of heat you want. Devil with Fire

Oh, I will be using the chili seasoning recipe!  They have a taco seasoning recipe too, and I may have to try that.   Great site!

Frugal Substitutes:

Adding this link here to keep our ingredient exchanges together.  I'm going to add this topic to the Community Cookbook index under Substitutions, so if you lose it, that's where you can find it, on the main Community Cookbook index.

My husband was craving chocolate chip cookies and I had no eggs. Found this egg substitute and it is supposed to work for any baked goods. I have only tried it for the cookies but it worked great.

This is equal to 1 egg

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Oil ( i used melted margarine)

1/4 cup water or milk

it has worked for the cookies

That's when I go out and have a little chat with the girls!  Help I have that same book that Suzanne used to read bedtime stories to HER hens!  They get very nervous when they hear words like Dumpling, Pot Pie, Fricassee, Crock Pot.

Yes, I know not everyone can have hens about, but it's surprising how many people DO get a half dozen or so hens even in a city!  Did you all know that it's totally legal to keep chickens in New York CITY??

If tomatoes are a fruit, then isn’t ketchup technically a

smoothie?

Thanks for the site!

Now…if I can only get a minute I will check it out.  I am only sitting here for a minute as I drink a cup of coffee.  Too much to do!!

I heard this on Martha the other day!

Substitute in baking for 1 egg = 1 TBL Flaxseed Meal + 3 TBL HOT water.  Mix together, it will resemble the consistency of a beaten egg
