OfflineAngelaS how fabulous to have lost 120#! I like your 3 bite plan. I try not to eat too much in the way of sweets. I make everything from scratch including frozen yogurts/ice milk so I can control the sugar amounts in it. No inbetween snacking unless its airpopped popcorn or clementines, celery and such.
I hope you all don't think I am reaching for excuses…when I mentioned age versus youth in losing weight…. When I got struck by lightening a few years back my whole system changed…my whole life changed… including metabolism, immune system, etc…. I have had 6 surgeries in the last 4 years for stage 4 traveling Endometriosis. In Sept. 2010 when I was diagnosed with Stenosis of the spine with bulging discs in the lower and upper spine, my life was put on hold, a complete stop. I was an avid hiker every week before that. My biggest goals right now are to shed a few pounds, regain balance and do another Susan G Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk.
No complaining here. I just want to feel good again. I was given a new lease on life when struck by lightening…. I am blessed to be here with all of you. I love all that you all have to say.

OfflineI know all about the new lease on life; almost 2 years ago I was hospitalized for 3 months with legionella pneumonia with all its attending side effects, renal failure/dialysis, cardiac problem, extremely high temp, etc. In the process I lost 60 pounds and have been able to keep my weight stable between 138 and 140. Just need to work harder to get rid of the Pillsbury Dough boy effect! Keep up the good work, watch those 3 bites and enjoy getting your life back together aiming for the Komen walk.

OfflineLeah's Mom, That is what we are here for! At some time in our lives we all need our own little cheerleading squad telling us that we are great and that we can do whatever it is we are wanting to do!

OfflineThis is a great thread. Very helpful and encouraging as usual.
I find what worked to lose 10 pounds when I was younger, doesn't work now that I'm 50. I used to be able to just cut calories. Now, I must watch sugar and simple carbs and am taking up jogging using a coaching program called 5K101. 8 weeks to go from the couch to being able to run a 5K. I just started week 2 today. I fully expect the addition of exercise will enable me to lose, become more fit and maintain. Then, I'm going to add strength training to build muscle, which burns calories and which our bodies naturally lose as we age.
