I have seen and want to make a cookie/dessert plate (two tiered) using glass plates and a cnadlestick.  Has anyone done this and have any tips.  Did you give the glass some tooth (rough it up like when painting)?  What kind of glue did you use? Some sites I have been on say to use a 2part epoxy but I am wondering if a regular clear waterproof glue (like E-6000) would work just as well.

I've never done your particular project but I work with a lot of glass. E-6000 should work just fine and yes, it's best to rough up the spot where you plan to adhere the pieces together.

Sounds like a great project, I'd love to see pictures when your finished.

I looked up the MSDS for it and it says that • E-6000® is not recommended for any items that come into contact with food, drinking water or animals.

…. now, if you're not going to heat this, and it's not really in direct contact with food or cookies on the plate and such, it may be reasonable to use, maybe, sort of.  Here's the link to the sheet so you can look it over yourself.

Never tried to glue the pieces together, so no help there.  I just set a pedestalled (sp?) cake plate on top of a larger glass plate when needing a tiered serving platter.

But let us know how it works!

I use E6000 all the time for jewelry and to make glass things like cake plates but the glue never comes in contact with the food, takes awhile for the odor to dissipate.  I buy candle sticks at the dollar store or garage sales etc and glue glass containers on them and fill them for Christmas and also use them to make the cake serving plates you want to make.

I just made my first "Hillybilly" wine glass.  I used "Glass Bond" by Hammer Head America.  It is a "Slick Surface Adhesive" and the package does NOT say, not for food purposes.  I did purchase the E-6000 and chose not to use it because of the food warning and having to sand to rough up the glass.  I have to wait yet the 24-hours for the final cure.  Hope this helps.

Pictures please Cincyjojo?  This sounds neat.
