What are your favorite simple sandwiches?

I've been making tomato sandwiches with my finally ripening tomatoes lately.  Just bread, mayo, salt, pepper and tomato.  I also like cucumber sandwiches with just butter, salt and pepper.

Lately I've been obsessed with ham and swiss sandwiches on toasted Grandmother Bread with horseradish.  Obsessed!!!  Been eating one every day!  I love horseradish!

Clover made me do it.

That sounds wonderful Suzanne, because I have been craving Swiss cheese! Ha

Some of my fav's are:

1. cucumbers sliced thin on cream cheese, on white bread and sprinkle salt on the cukes

2. Pineapple/cream cheese on Date Nut bread (hard to find now, in the can – Dromedary – but The Vermont Country Store claims to sell one). My mother used to make these tea sand's – the one above and this one and Pimento cheese for her women's gatherings..I am not sure what else went into this one..but I do remember this much. Seems like she had chopped pecans in it too.

3. a toasted bagel half, with cream cheese and TOASTED slivered or whole (salted) crushed almonds

4. Pimento cheese sandwhiches

5. Toast with mayo and sliced tomatoes with salt/pepper

These are a few of my fav. things….

I love horseradish too.  Are you growing your own?  A friend gave me some to plant this fall and I have a root in the fridge.  If you want, I can see about getting you a root.  I'm sure it would ship ok, they are pretty hardy.

Belladona-The bagle with cream cheese and toasted almonds sound really good.  I might have to try that before the week is out.

I just bought all the cheeses to make our favorite pimento spread yesterday.  We eat these on a whole grain bread make with sunflower seeds — one of our favorite sandwiches when we travel.

I, too, love horseradish.  I put in in our meatloaf and in the sauce that tops the meatloaf. For years, my son has said he doesn't care for meatloaf , FINALLY tried this — and loved it.

I had a grilled ham, co-jack and horseradish sandwich yesterday.  It was yummy!

I also love REAL tomatoes on freshly baked bread with real butter as a spread — salt and pepper.

Peanut butter and cucumber sandwiches are what I eat when I don't know what I want — those are really good — I also like peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches.

I love this chicken salad that I serve on croissants — it's always a hit for luncheons.

okay this is wierd because I've been on a sandwich kick.  I'm a salad person not a sandwich person.

I've been hooked on Oscar mayer pimento loaf, between two pieces of white bread.  I'm also not a white bread person. I'm a Honey Wheatberry bread person.

The past two weeks all I want to eat for lunch, snack whatever is this white bread pimento loaf sandwich.  NO I'm not pregnant.

Jayne, me too, I'm just stuck on ham & swiss and horseradish.  And I am not pregnant either so nobody start any rumors, LOL.

Heidi!!!!  I would LOVE to grow some horseradish!  I've never tried that before!!!

Peanut butter and cucumber…..  Okay, that sounds so weird!  But if you say it's good, I've got to try it!  I've never even heard of peanut butter and cucumber.  But I like both!

Peanut butter mixed with Maple syrup, or pancake syrup or even honey, is good on bread!

Suzanne – peanut butter and cucumber sandwiches do sound weird – but try one sometime.  Lightly toast the bread and slice the cucumbers thin — but not too thin.  I put salt and pepper on mine.  I love pepper — so I pepper almost everything.  My 'other mother' taught me to love this combo.

I will post my chicken salad and pimento salad under 'Recipes' tomorrow.

Mayo is good with peanut butter and cucumber too.  I use to eat that all the time as a kid.

If you want the horseraddish, PM me and I'll send you some.

Belladonna has it going on right…peanut butter and maple syrup is the ticket!  does anyone put peanut butter on their pancakes or waffles…or is that weird to y'all?

I must admit..I have a neighbor that tried to get me to try dill pickle and peanut butter sandwiches too…she said you have to chop up the dill pickle really well….I just never would…she is from Kansas…

whatever happened to jelly?

hahahaaa

Thankfully, I just have the taste buds of a pregnant woman.  LOL  Actually, I ate that sandwich on a dare for the first time when I was 12 and loved it.  It does sound totally disgusting, but it is so good.

Tresh-  You're cracking me up.  You can use Miricle Whip if you must.  I actually am pretty sure that's what I originally ate on it when I was a kid.  You really should just try it and get it over with.
