Does anyone have good pumpkin recipes? I have made two kinds of pumpkin bread, pumpkin/sausage soup, pumpkin pies…I still have 15 of the original 29 pumpkins off the one tiny little plant I got at a hardware store! Pumpkin soap? Pumpkin lotion? I really hate them to go to waste. Yes, I am cooking and puree-ing and freezing, but I am running out of pumpkin ideas…

Pumpkin Butter? Like Apple Butter or Pear Butter, only made from pumpkin. Since it takes alot of fruit to make a small amount of fruit butter, maybe it will help you get rid of some of your bounty. I've also read of Pickled Pumpkin. Peel, cut into slices and lacto-ferment like Saurkraut. Let me know if you want the recipe and I'll dig it up. Don't forget, you can always root-cellar it for the months ahead if you have a cool, dark area of a basement or garage. As long as it doesn't freeze, it would probably be fine.

I never have enough pumpkin to get past my pumpkin pie, pumpkin dump cake, pumpkin bread cravings……..but then I never have had 29 pumpkins, either!

I just remembered…pumpkin whoopy pies, with cream cheese filling. Or how about candied pumpkin slices…or, if you have a dehydrator, pumpkin leather?

When you root cellar it, do you have to do anything but set it in the cool dry garage? That sounds like a good way to stretch out the goodies. And I will try the recipes on the website cookbook. I want to get away a little bit from the sweets…I taste test far too many of those. Oo, candied pumpkin slices, that sounds amazing. Never heard of pumpkin dump cake. Wonderful, thanks!

Since pumpkin is a squash, you could probably substitute it for most squash recipes. Roasted with other veggies and onions, etc.

Pumpking cheesecake and dessert squares. Yum Yum!
Pumpkin pies don't last long around here. If I left it out on the counter it would be gone in a day. (I have a 24 yr old son, very active, still at home.)

You can replace the oil in most baked goods with pureed pumpkin.

Really? I've heard of applesauce, but pumpkin would be great! Add some goodness and not even know it!

I never have too much pumpkin so I can't imagine! I'd keep freezing it, though, and spread it out through the year in goodies!

I thought about this topic last night when I saw a thing on the news about mixing fresh pumpkin puree with a little bit of fresh lemon juice. Apply it to your face as a mask. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes then wash it off. It's supposed to be good for skin tone. Just thought that was an interesting alternative use for extra pumpkin!
The news piece also talked about using mashed cranberries mixed with oatmeal as a facial scrub.

Wonderful! Face masque pumpkin! I will try that tomorrow after work. I love bread pudding, that sounds interesting. Thank you for all the ideas.
