OfflineLast week I posted something about Salad in a Jar…I can't remember if was on here, on Face Book, or both. Here is a link: http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/…..d-in-a-jar
Anyway, I bought a FoodSaver and the jar attachment to try this out. I love salads. I even consider myself a salad artist ( The Artist ), but absolutely will not eat lettuce once it starts to turn brown. I have wasted a lot of lettuce in my life.
I've had a salad almost every day for the past two weeks. This method of vacuum sealing lettuce works like a miracle! Last Sunday, I fixed 7 quart jars of lettuce. Welcome to My Salad Drawer
I had a salad at work 4 days this week. A few minutes ago, we opened two of the remaining, week-old, jars of lettuce to have taco salads for supper. There was absolutely no signs of aging or browning or wilting on the leaves.
If you have a food saver and love salad, vacuum sealing if THE WAY to make your lettuce last longer.

OfflineI just saw this on Pintrest, bought some lettuce and am cutting it up tomorrow. I was really excited and was hoping it would work great….I'm going to set aside some quart jars for this and that's a sacrifice around here! Thanks for letting me know it worked.

My Seal-A-Meal died recently and we purchased an upright Food Saver. It has a permanent place on the counter where it can be used on a moment's notice. I really like the convience of the upright and use it daily. I will be putting salad in a jar now! Thanks for the info.
Can you post a photo or a link showing the upright food saver?

OfflineLeah'sMom, I found it at Wal-Mart but the one we bought can be seen here at Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Cabela-V…..B004RRFQDS
They have several different and updated models, I had two to choose from, a flat model and the upright (small Wal-Mart, lol) Anyway I think I have made back my investment in spades as I use it for everything.

What a great idea for storing lettuce. We just picked a lot of our fall lettuce (romaine, buttercrunch and green ice) and decided to try vacuum sealing it in jars to see if it will keep a little longer.
Let us know!

I love this idea! Nobody likes lettuce as much as I do around here. I could see putting it in pint jars so I don't have to open as much at once. I have a Seal-A-Meal and I googled around–people say the jar sealer for FoodSaver will work on Seal-A-Meal so I ordered one!
That's what I do for my mom. I can eat a whole quart, but mom can't, so she gets pint jars. Works great!

OfflineThe jar sealer for my ($5 garage sale) Food Saver finally arrived from Amazon, and I vacuum sealed 3 quart jars of lettuce and stuck 'em in the fridge. It worked great. So easy and now we have salad all ready to go. EZ. Hope it stays good as long as they say it should.
