"S" mentioned walnut liqueur on yesterday comments section and I am curious about it.

Do you just put the peel of the walnut in the liqueur?  I wonder if pecan shells(peeling) would work.  It smells sort of piney to me like I have read that the walnut peel smells like.

It said it got more mellow with age.

The procedure of making this liqueur sounds sort of how you would make lemoncello with lemon peels.

Deb, would you be so kind as to point out that particular post?  I've always been interested in homemade liqueurs and cordials and have concocted some tasty, as well as some peculiar, ones.

I'd be most grateful.

thanks.

Maud it was yesterday's Getting Ready for Christmas post that Suzanne made, under the comment section.  It was comment number 115 and all "S" said was she was making some walnut liqueur and that got my mind to roaming.  I too would love to hear how they plan to make this homemade liqueur!

Come "S"…chime in here and share the recipe!

Ah.  I didn't dig deeply enough.  Thanks, Miss Deb.  Should I come across a good recipe for Walnut Liqueur, I'll share.

If you're interested in a recipe for Homemade Tequila Rose, here it is:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup strawberry syrup
  • 1/2 cup tequila (your preference)

MIx all ingredients well.  Store in fridge.  Shimmy

That sounds really good Maud…if it has tequila in it…it must be good!  LOL

Okay, now, do you drink it straight or add it to something?  Let's say that I'm not the sharpest tack in the box about adult drinks…hahahaha.

The tequila rose can just be drank by itself!  It's already got all of the mix right in!!  I'm making some of that!!

I've done some googling for you, Deb!  The nut itself is what's used, and not just the shell.  Some of the recipes, the shell and all were thrown in, some used just the nut.

There are a few that you need the walnuts when they are green and you can still cut them  http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/nocino/.  That one uses brandy and the process is 2 months!

Or here's one using vodka and walnuts or pistachios – Pistachio/Walnut Liqueur – and it only takes a month!
