It's looking like a really good pepper year, so I think you'll find plenty for weeks to come. I bought a few yellow banana peppers from the Ohio River Valley and woohoo they are HOT.

Chopped up 1/3 of one in a big pot of cabbage yesterday. Ouchie Devil with Fire

Put much less in tomato salad today……

For the pretzels, you can get candy bags at places like AC Moore, etc. to "special up" such goodies. Someone in the canning group sent me some really nice cello bags from Nashville Wraps. Last year I ordered from their online catalog and got some cello bags for homemade chex mix & stuff but also got these great tulle drawstring bags … pop in a jelly jar and draw the top shut. Oh so pretty and a lot less intensive than the fabric circles I used to laboriously cut out for the jar tops LOL.

Even popping a jar in a cello bag and tying with a really pretty ribbon is a nice presentation.

How funny that you're talking about this.  I was thinking about making some little drawstring bags out of Christmas fabric to put mine in that I'm going to give as gifts.  That would be so easy!

If this wraps, these are the bags (organza, not tulle, my bad LOL)

But poke around in there – all kinds of colors, designs. Be sure the size you choose will fit the jars you want them for. There are teeny bags for special little goodies. I bought several colors, then planned baskets around the colors I bought. Were really nice. The cello bags are great to have on hand year round I have found.

Love these – excellent price when you think about it.  I got some of these after Christmas at the dollar store 2 for 50 cents but these prices are better.  Sometimes I get cards at the dollar store and they come in one of these bags.  Yuo can get them at Hobby Lobby but I think the selection and prices are better on this site.  You cant make them for these prices either.

Wow is right – most of the gift bags are around 52 cents each.  The first one mentioned is a 250 count and 5 cents each.  you could go in with several people for that one.

I used to find them at dollar stores also, but hit and miss of course. Last year (and on a tight budget as always lol) I decided that what I was gonna spend with them was the same or less than what I trickled out on chance purchases locally all together. Best thing I have done :) re: Christmas baskets.

These are nice, not stiff and cheap like what I bought locally. And yes, if you can pool an order with someone close to you, even better.

There are some with gussets that work great for more round type jars. Too late for me to go hunting for the size LOL.

I'm going to be making a huge batch of corn relish tomorrow, since the last batch was so fantastic that we have eaten/given away all but one jar of it already.  Is it ok if the jars in the canner touch each other?

I hope so!!  I don't know how to keep them apart!  I've only heard the warnings of them not touching the direct bottom of the canner.

That's what I figured.  I don't know how I would fit 7 quart sized jars in my canner without them touching each other, but I thought I'd check.

Now why are you giving me more ideas of what to can?  Pie filling is such a great idea!  But I already have alot of stuff on my agenda for the weekend.  Canning corn relish, salsa, more peach jam, and vegetable spaghetti and also baking zucchini bread, wheat bread, and hot dog and hamburger buns.  Our pantry and freezer are going to be full!

Well, I can tell you that I wouldn't be nearly as inclined to do it all if the living room and kitchen were'nt all kind of one big room.  I can watch TV and chat with my husband while I work.  Actually, hubby usually helps me with it all when he's home, so I don't actually have to do it all myself.

We had a mega canning weekend, Roma tomatoes were at the market Friday, the boxes were fully ripe, so I came home with 3 boxes (25 lbs ea).  We canned 8 qts of spagetti sauce, 15 pints of salsa, 8 jelly jars of red pepper jelly and 7 qts of tomatoes.   Roma's are such a meaty tomatoe, but have lots of seeds, so I squeezed most of the seeds out.  The spagetti sauce and salsa are very pretty.

I canned some chicken soup today. One of the jars broke in the canner! When it first started to build pressure, we heard a weird noise and we didn't know what it was. When it was done and I took off the lid, it was full of soup and there was a hole in the side of one of the jars. Weird!  At least it was only one out of 4 jars, so we still have 3 jars to enjoy later.

That's the thing, isn't it.  Glass breaks.  Sometimes it's absolutely unexplainable – no cracks, nothing to show a weak spot, but it breaks.  It makes a fun cleanup though, doesn't it?

Haha  Right.  It just breaks.  And it was even a brand new jar!  Cleanup wasn't too bad.  My husband suggested putting the nasty soup/water through a colander to make sure we didn't get cut on the glass.  We did that, and there was one piece of glass in there with the chicken and vegetable chunks.  It was too weird – A perfect oval shaped piece of glass about 2 1/2" long just popped out of the side of the jar.
