Tonight we are having a picnic in our kitchen. I have been a bit under the weather, I injured my back and have been doing very little, our dear neighbor is bringing fried chicken, baked beans, cole slaw and cream pie. How blessed we are.

So happy to see Suzanne posting again, I know exactly what she is feeling, I went through something very similar, not through an accident but an illness, even though medication is helping my dear Hubby and he will get better in time I treasure everyday he is well and fear every night, we find how much we love a person when we fear we may loose them and when you my age you feel it even more. Love should never be taken for granted but appreciated every day and hold on to it will all of our might.

Tonight we are having chili from the freezer---love those prepare ahead meals, although we are running out of them, I'll have to start replacing them soon, for a bit later in the evening we are having peach cobbler that I made this morning, I like to let some vanilla ice cream melt and pour that over my cobbler.

Tonight we are having taco salads---I make a "bowl" using those huge tortillas from the store and then layer lettuce and all of the things that go into a taco, add guacamole and sour cream on top.

Tonight we are having steak sandwiches. We share a steak when we have them and even them there are sometimes left over, so I am fixing onion, green peppers and a few mushrooms in a bit of butter putting that along with the steak slices on a toasted bun top with some provolone cheese, wrapping the sandwiches in foil and putting them in the oven for a bit.

Tonight we are having a nice big salad, it has been so warm here today--77 degrees we just sat out side on the porch and enjoyed the sun----before the rain and snow returns.

Woke up to a cold overcast day with snow falling, just the kind of day I love to cook and bake. I am baking bread today to try the cast iron bread pans that my Son gave me, I have always used glass pans so I am anxious to see how they bake. I am also baking a cherry pie and making a good size pan of sloppy joes for him to put in his freezer.

Our dinner will be meatloaf, mashed potatoes and red cabbage---one of my favorite  meals  it reminds me of my Mom and Grandmother, just the kind of day that makes me happy.

Today we are having BBQ ribs, made in the slow cooker. Yesterday I made potato salad, baked beans-- baked some brownies and made a cherry delight, so no major cooking today, just relax and keep cool, the weather here as in many places, has been almost unbearable, so very hot and humid it is nearly impossible to be outside for any length of time. We manage to mow the grass in the evening but no trimming---just to hot.

Tonight we are having pizza from the pizza store, I had to go to the doctor today and was told to take it easy for a couple of days. We have not had pizza for a while so I am looking forward  to it.

Hello mamajhk, you have missed. Your dinner sounds perfectly wonderful. Always nice to visit and have dinner with family.

Been doing some traveling this summer.  Just got home this afternoon from a trip to SW Oklahoma.  Hope to be home for awhile before a possible fall trip.

It sounds as though you have been traveling quite a bit, hopefully Hubby is doing well. You have been missed on the forum--I am so glad you are back--- I need lessons in pressure cooking. My Son gifted me with a couple of pressure cookers a couple years ago, I am not even sure of the size without going to the basement and looking at them, I used the smaller one once  and the larger one has never been used. I just don't know how to use them, I purchased a cookbook by Bob Warton but I am still at a loss, it seems like most of the items in the book are things we would not fix, we like just everyday food, and I guess I am a bit afraid of them. I know you use them a good bit. We could call it   "Cooking with Mamajhk".chef

First week of May found me on the road with our daughter to upstate Ohio to visit a friend and then to Columbus for a work conference (her) then back upstate for the weekend.

Then there was Memorial Day which finds me on the road to place flowers on graves and then pick them up again.

The second week of June we took the two younger granddaughters to visit Hannibal, MO. and ride the riverboat on the Mississippi and tour a cave and the historical district.

This last week we were in southwestern Oklahoma doing a little geocaching and genealogy with the middle granddaughter.  Drove up a mountain called Mt. Scott which I had been up when I was a kid and had always wanted to go back.  Don't have that urge anymore.  Wish it had been cooler.

Hubby is doing fine considering we forgot the insulin on this last trip but he did okay

I have not used mine as much as I thought I would when I got it.  I bought a couple "The Pressure Cooker cookbook by Rowinski and The Idiot's Guides to Pressure cooking by Hirschfeld.  I also look online a lot for ideas and inspiration.

Doing some baking today but can not seem to log on to the Anyone baking today page, baking 3 loaves of bread slme for us an a loaf to share, peanutbutter bar cookies, and a nobake cherry delight. A great day for baking, it is overcast and raining and that rain is most welcome. Dinner tonight will be spagetti and garlic bread.
