Went to a farm near by this morning and picked up some corn, green beans and squash.

Today I am cooking green beans, nice and slow with some smoked jowl and a bit of bacon grease, fried squash seasoned with Italian bread crumbs, corn on the cob and a corn bread round.

Able to post here--dinner is going to be cube steak with mushrooms in gravy, mashed potatoes and fried green tomatoes  not sure able the sweet as yet maybe sliced peaches.

Got up this morning at 5am and baked a couple loaves of bread. I purchased bread this past week and had not realized how expensive good read is, I paid nearly $5 for one loaf of bread. That was enough for me, it was good, but I like the homemade stuff.wink

I had grilled some chicken breasts over the weekend with the idea of using them in various ways.  I am thinking tonight will be chicken salad with grapes.

Last week our Son sent a box of frozen from Montgomery Inn, we are having them for dinner tonight along with a salad, the ribs are cooked, just need to be thawed and heated through with the sauce---good old counter top oven! The box also included 2 kinds of ice cream for desert, I am not an ice cream person, but it sounds good today.

Today is a cooler day and it appears we will be having rain for the next several days, love the cooler weather, last week it was in the 90s today only in the 60s. For dinner tonight we are having ham slices in pineapple sauce, scalloped potatoes and fresh green beans.

                      Pumpkin cookies for later.

Bought some minute steaks at a local locker last week and schedule didn't permit cooking them then but tonight is the night.  Also potatoes of some kind and some fresh green beans.

happy-flowerToday I am making meat loafs, three in total, one for dinner tonight along with boiled read potatoes and sautéed cabbage, the other two will be frozen and vac sealed for later this fall. Cherry cobbler for later.

I have been trying to prepare our pantry and freezer for Winter meals. We try not to go out when the flu season hits, if we do go to the store, it is early morning or we have our Son pick up what we need. From what the doctor told us last week, they are already seeing flu cases.

Tonight we had our Thansgiving dinner. Anyone that knows me knows how much I love Thankagiving, like a lot of cooks I spend several days getiing ready for the meal I will be serving and this year was no exception. Everthing went according to plan and when the turkeywas done,it looked like a picture, but I noticed there was hardly no drippings in the roaster, which was not a big deal because I was not making gravey, I put everything on the table and when it came time to carve the turkey I tasted a bit of it and knew there was a problem, it has a very odd taste and when cut the texture was not right as well. With all the ptoblems with poultry that has been in the news lately, we threw it in the trash. We had our side dishes for dinner. Since there were plenty of left overs, I made a roasted chicken for dinner and reheated the side dishes.  The turkey that we purchased was a well know brand that we have used for many years. I have roasted many turkeys in the last 60 years and have never has a bad one until now.  Be that as it may, we still had much to be thankful for.

Had a busy day today so we decided to have a pizza from the pizza place and also have it delivered something we rarely do. The perfect ending to a good day.

Not feeling up to par today, it has been a frustrating (and costly) week so far. The fridge in our basement kitchen went out and all food was lost, then we found out we need to replace our sump pump carry away line!! I don't really feel like cooking today so tonight we are having toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, comfort food at it's best. Maybe be ice cream sundae later. Oh well, "Tomorrow is another day".wink

happy-flowerBeen busy getting things back in order, new fridge delivered today. We had a late breakfast so I think tonight we are having Cobb salads for dinner, one of Hubby's favorites, no dessert tonight, I hope to get something baked tomorrow.
