happy-flowerOur supermarket had hams on sale before Thansgiving, so Hubby purchased one, and I baked that today, also made potato salad and baked beans, so we are all set for a while.

Remember, if it rains on your picnic it's also raining on your garden!

Firehouse Porkchops, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed broccoli Normandy,  several kinds of cake…. helped cook for a fundraiser/elimination dinner to benefit my American Legion Post. Made the above for 120. YUM and tired feet yes

Chicken vegetable soup with barley and home made bread.  Since dad woke up and announced that he wanted soup for breakfast, I thought the least I could do is make it for his supper!  He said he'd make do with oatmeal with bananas and raisins for breakfast instead, and tolerated a simple sammy for lunch.

Tomorrow, I'll put a chuck roast in the dutch oven early and cook it low and slow with onions, carrots, potatoes and mushrooms… added as time demands of course!  Having the oven on low is a comfort in this cold weather.  If it were summer I'd use the crock pot, since it's chilly in this drafty old house, I'll make the oven do double duty as a source of warmth as well.  hungry

It was blueberry pancakes & sausage links tonight.  The blueberries were wild ones from our pasture area (as yet unfenced, so not quite pasture).  Leftover pancakes will go in the freezer for another meal!

If I learned something today, the day wasn't a waste!

Vegetable beef soup made from leftover roast beef and veggies.  Served with broccoli bread and toll house bars for desert.  Really good after an afternoon of leaf raking!

Borscht. First time I have ever made it, so this could be interesting. I have Russian black rye bread (no recipe, I bought it at Trader Joe's) to go with it.

Bags of beets and red onions were donated at the local senior center. Most people took bags home, I took a few beets and a few onions, just for this menu item.

Got a 6 pound cabbage so made Stuffed cabbage rolls, a creamy cole slaw and froze some wedges for a New England boiled dinner.

Where are we going and why are we in a handbasket?

happy-flowerThe weather is warm enought to go out on the porch and grill something, so I thought maybe some burgers, I shaped the burgers and got onions and tomatoes sliced etc.– I deciided to go outside and light the grill, when I opened the top of the grill, there was a ball of "stuff" inside,— we had'nt used the grill for a while,– 2 mice jumped out of the stuff, they had problems getting out of the grill, I on the other hand, had no problem getting into the house.

I did the burgers in the house, the mice moved to another location, we moved the grill to the enclosed porch leaving the cover off and the top open.

  I really want some snow!!

Oh JOJO I can relate to the scene.  I have opened the grill and had it full of leaves and twigs where birds had made their nest.

I made  chicken noodle soup from scratch, green salad with homemade ranch and grandmother bread. For dessert I made an apple pie and homemeade ice cream. I bought a Cuisineart ice cream maker last weekend and i absolutely love it. No more sugary whipped-air ice creams for me.

DH cooked hash made from leftover steak and baked potato from last night's cookout at the snowmobile club, with peas, and leftover blueberry pie for dessert. I love leftovers! And hash!
