I'm in the market for a new mixer.  I have never had one with a stand that has lots of attachments so I'm looking for advice.  Which mixer do you prefer and what attachments are worth buying and which ones just collect dust?

I love my Kitchen Aid! Actually, I've had two of them.  Current one has a bigger bowl and, supposedly, more powerful motor.  I think the old one sounded better!

I love my Kitchen Aid. I have the pasta rolling and cutting attachment and use it often for rolling dumplings and well as pasta.  My meat grinder attachment is well used also. I have recently purchased the juice/strainer attachment but haven't had the chance to use it yet. I use the dough hook from time to time.  But just using the mixer itself is well worth the purchase. IMHO.

I bought a Kenmore 5qt tilt back stand mixer that is exactly like the Kitchen-Aid, for under 200.00 I love it, and Kitchen-Aid attachments fit! I have since found out that it is made by the same manufacturer

I did get in trouble while mixing filling for sweet potato pie, and got distracted and turned the know the wrong way, speeding it up instead of turning it down.

I had to take down the kitchen curtains and wash them!

I bought it right after Christmas last year, and I'm really looking forward to using it for cooke dough this year.

I love my Kitchenaid! I don't have any attachments, but I use it almost daily anyway. I do have the ice cream bowl and we like that. I will soon be getting the fruit, vegetable strainer/grinder attachment.

I (sorta) have a farm in Africa.

I have a big Kitchen Aid and several attachments. I just love it. It sits out on the counter all the time because I use it often. My sister wouldn't part with hers either. So that is 2 votes for KA.

Oh, I see you want to know about attachments. I have the grinder, the shredder, the ice cream maker. We use them all and they work well.

I have the big huge have to stay on the counter, because it won't fit anywhere else AND I LOVE IT.

Mostly used for kneading dough, for my birthday I got the pasta maker, that attchement works great, but I didn't like the recipe given in the book…tasted like storebought.

Now I got another recipe but have been to busy to try that one…

This is the only attachments I have.,,but will follow this with interested, because if any other machine I have will break I would like to replace it as an attachment.

Hello, I really, really really want a Kitchenaid mixer. But I have found it hard to buy a kitchenaid here in Zambia. One has to import them and when I go to Amazon, it says they dont ship them to Zambia. How are you going to get your extra attachments??? And what about after sales service??

Your choice depends on how much you'll use it and for what.  The Kitchen-aid class of mixers are ok, I think, with the older models from the 80s and 90s being sturdier than what's sold new today.  I've heard good things about Bosch & DLX units, which look more like a food processor than a mixer but have a lot of power.  Haven't personally seen either in action.

I have:

1. An 18-year-old 5 qt. Kitchenaid, pro model, with all the pasta attachments, slicer/shredder, and we'll be getting the ice cream attachment next time I find it on sale somewhere.  It lives on the counter, ready for use BUT –

2. I bought a 6 qt. Kitchenaid about 5 years ago because it was supposed to be rated for heavier use, plus the bigger bowl would better accommodate the bread recipe I made most often then (I was baking every weekend to send back w/ the college kids).  Hated it – didn't run as smoothly and it sounded like an airplane revving for take-off.  Gave that one to daughter who doesn't bake as often and bought –

3. A used 5 qt. commercial Hobart.  The bowls, whip, and dough hooks are interchangeable with the Kitchenaid but the other attachments don't quite fit it, and I've yet to locate any that do though supposedly they were sold by Hobart once upon a time.  Nevertheless, that's the machine I use most, and I love it.  Worth every penny.

I also love my Kitchen-aid mixer.   Never any trouble.  They do make different modles.  Have all the attachments.  Use the grinder attachement a lot.  Knead all my bread with it.  Of all the things I have and use, cooking , canning, etc., this is the one all time big purchase that has payed off for countless years.   I think the reason they are so popular is becasue I never hear about anyone having trouble with them.  Mine is a heavy-duty one and holds up to any job that needs to be done.  Then I read LauraP's post.  Hobart is great.  Our family had a bakery and that was the appliance of choice in the bakery.  I am not sure but I think Hobart is the maker of Kitchen-aid.  I have been pleased with my Kitchen-aid.

Hobart no longer manufactures KitchenAid mixers.  The new KitchenAids are nowhere close to the quality of the older models.  I wasn't at all happy with the one I bought, which is why I replaced it with the Hobart.

Put me in the KA fan group!  But then, mine is from the early 90's and has never given me the first bit of trouble.

My Kitchen Aid is 21 yrs young and still going strong! I use it all the time for bread, cakes, cookie dough and have never had a problem with it.  Not sure about the new models?

I just got myself a Kitchenaid, which I've wanted for many years.  I love it.  I borrowed my friend's grain mill and it works great!  I love Ezekiel bread and this mill grinds the beans into flour something terrific.  It has a pasta extruder I'm interested in.  I want to make my own whole wheat pasta and it will make macarone, spaghetti and several other kinds.  I did have an Oster Kitchen Center that I bought over 35 years ago, and it still works; but I needed to move on to something that would make it easier to make bread.

Whatever you decide….I hope you love it!!chef

I'm also a KitchenAid fan!  I got to thinking that mine might be one of the "newer" ones after reading all your posts, but heck, now that I add it up…..it must be over 20 years old!  Where did that time go?   cry

LauraP who does make KA now? I have been drooling over one for sometime. I used to have one that I gave away(dumb) and now would like to have one again. I want to make homemade marshmallows! So from what you all are saying the new models do not do as well as the older ones made by Hobart? Advise me please.

I'm a huge fan of my KitchenAid!  I didn't think it was that old…until I started calculating how long I've had it.  Apparently, it's about 15 years old!  It is a workhorse.  I leave it on the counter & use it multiple times a week.  I don't have any of the attachments, but have been looking into the meat grinder.  My parents have a newer KA & it is still good, but there is a definite difference between theirs & mine.
