OfflineMorning barn chores usually take me 20 minutes. This morning 90 minutes, breaking ice with the sledge hammer and hauling buckets of hot water from the kitchen, nearly falling on the frozen snow. No use in trying to thaw out the hose before noon.
My driveway is nearly impassable even with 4WD. I have to get out to go to work and I'm wondering every morning if I'm going to make it.
Come on spring!

OfflineThis is crazy expensive, but still tempting! http://www.leevalley.com/garde…..0&ap=1
though I'm not all THAT tired of winter, I kinda like it and I know it's actually good for the soil and plants etc here where I live. Of course, my winter chores are much less of a problem than yours are bonnie! Mine used to be like that and then some, but no more! Your beasties love you for it though!

OfflineI can see why you would need a break from winter…..come on over and see what came up in my yard this morning…..

Hang in there – it has to warm up soon. I wish I could share more, but pictures is all I can send.

OfflineToo make matters worse, my 80 year old father fell on the porch steps in the ice and broke his arm in at least 2 places. My mom doesn't drive in bad weather (never has) so one of the neighbors took him to the hospital. She didn't bother to tell me until the next day. They're off to the orthopedist today to see how bad it actually is broken and possibly get another cast.
Dh came in the house with icy boots and fell thru the sheetrock in the bathroom. I thought that was kind of funny. He didn't hurt himself, just the house.

OfflineThat would be okay, if you could find the room.
Seriously, all the states have their very own qualities. I have never been to WV, but did travel through a lot of the states in the midwest and south, on a 4-month long motorhome vacation 1993. I love all your green back there in the summer, and really enjoyed NC, KY and TN. Hope to go back someday to visit the Virginias, Ohio and PA, especially.
But, as we all know, there is no place like home. (be it ever so humble)

OfflineWell, on the bright(er) side, winter with its blanket of snow is actually good for the garden in many ways. The cold kills funguses and keeps weeds in check, there are less poisonous crawlies where there is snow in the winter, and where there isn’t snow, even a hard freeze helps keep garden pests in check.
I happen to like winter sports, I love cross country skiing, I used to ice skate, though those days are gone now, and while it IS hard on the birds, I love to watch my birdfeeders in the winter time. I’d never see this number of birds without that feeding station out there to attract them. When I lived where there was real consistent snow, snow shoes are fantastic fun believe it or not! Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried tramping in the backcountry where the snowy silence is magical.
I love the march of the seasons, and whenever I’ve lived where there weren’t all four present and accounted for, I’ve missed winter.
I've always felt that it's best to find things about any weather that I can enjoy since no amount of complaining will change a single thing about it! ![]()

OfflineI love your take on the changing of the seasons. And your right, though I loathe Winter, if I didn't see it, I would miss it. It would be easier if it just wasn't so hard! My home is heated the old-fashioned way: Wood. And while wood heat is comfortable, there is a lot of work involved; it seems like fire-fixing is a twenty-four hour job! So, maybe if I could just turn up the heat instead of rebuilding a fire that has gone cold, I could appreciate it!
