We have a pet bunny…I change the litter in the cage once a week. Well I just changed it yesterday or the day before and it already smells! I am wondering if there is anything I can put in there to help with this? Maybe my nose is a little overly sensitive but I dont think that is it.

Are you sure the bunny is peeing in the box?  Bucks have been known to spray urine in a huge (like 6-8 ft) arc to mark their territory.  Typically, rabbits always urinate in the same place.  Have you moved the litter box, or the cage?  If it's none of these things, might not be a bad idea to take the rabbit to the vet & make sure it doesn't have a UTI or something.

He is a buck, maybe that is what it is…I just cant get the smell out of my nose right now!!!

I will try doing like a vinager water wash around his cage and see if that helps.

Thank you!

Yeah, it's actually pretty incredible to see them do it.  Hard to believe they can get such range!!  I used to show rabbits, but my bucks typically only sprayed like that when they were in a new or different environment.  Seems odd that he would do it on his home turf, unless something has changed.  New pet?  Different cleaner used in the area?

I had just steam cleaned the rug that is next to his cage…I wonder if that was it. New cleaner….

I wouldn't be at all surprised.  It probably didn't smell like *him* anymore.  Dang rabbits.  You could try having him neutered, it can help with the spraying.

I have a house bunny too. She is litterbox trained but not altered. I dont know about a buck. But this doe will stink up her cage if she pees over the edge of her box. It is an unholy mess sometimes. I use recycled paper pellets as litter in her box and i dont notice a smell unless she pees outside the box. Which only happens b/c she has a big butt and she doesnt know it and it hangs off sometimes. I have had to do cleaning twice a week now instead of just once a week. Good luck.  :)
