Suzanne:

Do you shear your own sheep or do you have someone do it for you?  I noticed yours are getting pretty wooly!

We have someone who does it.  And very inexpensively.   He charges $10 per sheep and also trims their hooves!  In fact, he was here this morning.  They WERE looking pretty woolly!  They're naked now!

Clover made me do it.

Do you think he'd travel to Nicholas County?

LOL, I don't know that he'd go that far!  He'd probably charge more to do it.  I know he shears in Calhoun County and Roane County.  He's REAL old, by the way!

Are you going to show pictures of shearing soon?  and of the fleece?  I'm removing the vegetable matter from  some jacob wool (the name of the sheep is Sarah…), readying it for spinning.  It is soooo soft and I can't wait to see what it wants to be.

I posted a couple pics on my Daily Farm Photo page last week.  I didn't hang around during much of the shearing actually--I was milking Beulah Petunia!  He came in the morning.  We haven't done a thing with the fleeces yet.

OK, thanks! – just wanted to make sure I didn't miss seeing the sheepies get their spring coats.

Spring is such a busy time for farmers, and I can get a bit anxious when wool/fleece is concerned.  I just bought a used (my first) spinning wheel after drop spindling almost a year.

Spinning is my new passion…
