OfflineOn the other side:
We went to the State Fair of Texas and the "Real" milk people had an outdoor booth where you could 'learn to milk a cow.' It was a fiberglass model, with a rubber like udder and all you had to do was squeeze the teat to open the flow of water! It was the least real milking demo I've ever seen. The Borden folks had a booth (indoors) which featured a live Elsie the cow and Beauregard calf lying down (comatose?) in separate little pens. They looked drugged. You could buy a bottle of milk (white or chocolate) for $1. It was probably shipped all the way from WI or somewhere. BTW, the in-state milk producer/sellers had no gimmicks, but were quietly selling their milk and ice cream in the food building.

OfflineI agree! I would never let a hoard of strangers milk my cow, either! But it was just odd what passed for animal/produce education from milk advocates. A fake cow from one and a "pet" cow from another.
Meanwhile the REAL goings on were taking place with the 4H kids and competitors. Not to mention the pig races. I really love the State Fair!
