Hi guys,

I'm selling maybe 10-20 birds to a friend of mine, and I wanted to know what I should charge.  (It's always harder to figure that out when it's a friend…)  The birds are all pullets at point of lay or already laying, none of them old or worn out.  They are Gold Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orps, and Black Sex Links.  What would you suggest?  I don't want to overcharge but I don't want to give them away, either.  Thanks for your help!  chicken

When I've looked at prices at the hatcheries they have a price for pullets separate from a price for newly hatched.

You might want to check what the hatcheries are charging and do accordingly.  That would still be a bargain price for a friend as she wouldn't have to pay the extra shipping charge!

Here in the Ozarks good laying hens bring around 10 – 12 dollars. Sometimes you can buy some for 6 or 8 dollars.

I've paid between $5, from a friend (I tried to get her to take more)  and $12, from someone who advertised, for pullets.  I think I paid someone around $7 one time for pullets.

Well, I checked the Murray McMurray website and they charge $13.95/bird for started pullets, + shipping & handling, so I figured that $10 would be a pretty good deal.  My friend seems to think that's fair, too.  Selling things to people you know can be so tricky!  Thanks for the help, everyone!
