My Llamas first signs were lack of interest in "some" of his food, then it progressed and quickly to staggaring, in ablilty to right himself, he acted loopy. Like his balance was off.

You certainly have my sympathy, Angela.

Sorry, but I have no information to offer.  There are some folks around here with llama raising experience.  Let's hope one of them stops by real soon.

HelloThanks Pete, me too. Of all my "hobby farm" pets, he is by far my favorite. He is the best of a cat and dog. We joke and say he is our 250 lb barn dog. Im doing all the reading and talking I can. Next place MSU. There has got to be something out there. Its not over yet.No

Ladybug Im waiting for the vet to come out and have a look see on our Jeff the Llama. The vet ( when we talked this morning) does not think it is an menengeal worm. Not the season for them ….yet. Im crossing my fingers, praying very hard and holding my breath that its someting treatable. Thank you all for your kindness…More later. Yes

Here's hoping the news is positive for you.  Hug

If it's got tyres or testicles it's trouble.

I'm still trying to remember who our llama owners are.  Have searched around a bit because we had some links at one time for at least one of them.  Keep hoping someone will stop by who can call up that info.

And here is Gizmo's website:  http://www.asgaardgoats.com/

There might be some info there that would be useful for Angela.  Or perhaps a lead to some useful information.

Also, there was a discussion about camelids some time back which might interest you, Angela.  Not particularly helpful with your current situation, though, but here that one is: http://suzannemcminn.com/forum…..mp;ret=all

Sun2Shimmy GOOD NEWS!   Jeff is going to be o.k.  Vet #3, He is my hero! Came out to  our place, took one look at Jeff and knew his neck was out of align! He did two chiropractic adjustments on Jeff, he walked almost normal after that. Doc said it will take 48 hours for the full effect. We are not out of the woods yet, Jeff may need another adjustment.  This I can handle. Its deffinitely NOT brain worm, wrong time of year for that. A slug is needed to carry the parasite to its host….good thing its still cold here in SW Michigan. Too cold for slugs!

I hadnt slept since Thursday when this all started, last night I still couldnt sleep. All I could do was lay there and say "THANK YOU GOD!"

Thank  you!   To all of you here. For all your good thoughts.  Im hoping that this will help others. I talked with two other people with similar experiences and their pets had to be put down, maybe if there vet knew to look for neck alignment theyd still be alive.

If you ever have a chance to welcome a Llama into your farm, do it. You wont be disappointed, you'll be in love!

A neck problem???  Wow, how great (well, not great for poor Jeff), but no meds, no more suffering.  It's amazing how good chiropractic care is important, even in animals!

Great, great resolution, Angela!  Of course, now you get to figure out how it happened in the first place and try to make sure it doesn't happen again, but today – just enjoy the moment and the Jeff!

Wonderful!  (And get some sleep!)    Shimmy

So glad to hear The Jeff is going to be OK. It is so hard when a pet is sick and you feel so helpless.  Interesting though about it being a neck problem. I wouldn't have thought about chiropractic care for animals. You are luck to have found such a good vet. Hope you can now get some rest. Maybe you could show us a pic of The Jeff some time.

WaveThis is what I "think" happened to Jeff, recently here in SW Michigan we had some heavy, and wet snow. Now our temps are rising….Sun2ya! Spring! Sun and melting the snow during the day, night we freeze, creating ice. I think Jeff may have slipped just enough to put his back and neck out of wack!????

Thank you all again for your concern  Hug and yes I will get a photo of The Jeff, warning he is a cutie!Clover

Jeff is under stall arrest until all the ice has melted. He is NOT happy about my choice but he is still on the mend. And voila! A picture of "The Jeff"  Enjoy.

Thanks Rileysmom for doing the dance! We are just dancing people arent we!?!?!
