I have 2 Alpine does and an Alpine buck. Only one is milking. She's 5 years old now and a great milker and mom. The other one will be bred for the first time this year.

Hello fellow goat lovers. Saneen doe and Alpine/Nubian doe owner here. Im currently milking my Saneen, Blossom. She is a total sweetie, excellent milk and milker. Im looking to have my other doe, Tilly bred this Dec. First time with babies…Im soooo nervous. Tilly will know more about it than me, this will be here 3rd time. Ive let her rest for about 4 years, getting my nerve up. I think we are ready. Today I have a friend coming over, she wants to get into goats too. Im very happy for her and excited at having another true goat lover in my area. I like my goats to be out in pastures, grazing, napping, being goats. I was at an "expert" goat farm recently. She had over 45 goats in a 6'x32' area….APPAULING!!!!!! I came home and told my goats how lucky they are they are to be living here! As a matter if fact Im making cheese today for my firends vist! Happy Goat Lucky to all….

6 x 32???????? that is absolutely ridiculous!   Before I got my two Dwarf Nigerians I read a million articles on their requirements and built a 32 x 16 pen for the two of them. Most articles said at least 100 square feet per dwarf goat. I gave them 500 together. This taken into account that there are other places on the property I intend to let them eat just as soon as they realize this is home and I am their chief cook and bottle washer.  If I add more I will increase the size. I  think crowding animals is just cruel.  Not to mention she is just asking for sickness in those conditions.

Yea! I know pretty hard to believe but sadly Ive seen more than one. I hear ya about the germs/diseases etc… Im just grateful mine live the way they do. I might not have the prettiest barn, but its clean, dry and lots of room!

I was wondering if anyone makes goats milk yogurt? I have in the past. Mostly its fed to the chickens. No one here likes it because its so runny. Well, runnier than the store bought. Ive tried thickening it with dried milk powder, it helps but…. Ive also tried unflavored gelatin…..Any suggestions? Maybe its my starter? What all do you use?
