OfflineI really need some help here. A couple of months ago, 2 pea hens found our property and decided to make it their home. At first I thought it was neat…kind of a novelty, but they have become quite a problem. They poop everywhere, have scratched the heck out of my hubby's car and other problems with them (the list keeps growing)!
We have tried to chase them away, thrown rocks at them and we have just gotten tired of them and having to check our shoes before we come in the house.
Can anybody tell me "why" they are of any value before they meet an unfortunate end?

OfflineNO, they have no value! We were luckier than you are… when we chased them out of the banty pen for trying to kill a hen, they flew into the trees behind the house. Next door dog ate one (lovely photo of the feathers won a prize at county fair), and gradually they all disappeared. But it took almost a year. I would recommend a beebee gun and a good eye.
My daughter put them on her cellphone as a ring tone!

Offlineoh my, you brought back memories :( a few years ago 6 just showed up outta no where. they were here a couple years and I have a fierce dislike of them now. they wondered into the corn field and only 5 returned, they got on the road, only 4 made it back. they had 26 babies, they are horrible mothers. If a baby fell behind to bad. hubby and I made our eve. rounds to pick up dead babies. uuuggghhh They wouldn't let the chickens eat, they attacked the chickens constantly. When we were down to 2 hubby ended our grief and theirs. Never again!!!

OfflineAnd NOISY!!! They make guinea fowl seem like a lullaby! I've heard of people eating them, but if you get them raised up to a reasonable age you can sell them for some high prices. There's several hatcheries that sell pairs or trios for $100 or more, or individuals for $40 or $50 as chicks! The chicks are rather delicate at first, and don't do well with wet of damp conditions and I'm definitely not sure they're worth the trouble. To actually breed them, you'd need a big aviary so the males won't wreck their tails. I've heard they won't breed well if cramped etc but I'm not sure that's true.

OfflineTHAN YOU for your replies! Oh dear, I did the stupidist thing and named them when they first showed up. Now, I feel such guilt in getting rid if them permanently. DH,as well as I have tried a Bee Bee Gun (for the last couple of weeks) and that does not seem to detour them. Sigh! He said this AM he is going to break use something a little stronger.
I think this is why I cannot raise chickens. I would make a pet out of them too!
