shimmy So happy things went well and everything is good for both Snickers and Major!

So now we have a Tennessee Walking Quarter Horse?

Haha, yes I guess we do.

Actually…he has had a bit of a set back.  He was doing fine, then Friday evening he was all head-hanging and pawing the ground.  I offered him some alfalfa hay and he wouldn't even nibble.  That's the equiv. of someone offering a menopausal woman a jar of Nutella and a spoon and her shooing you away.  He also began peeing blood.

Husband gave him about 10 liters of fluid.  He seemed a little perkier yesterday THEN today, while getting fluids and his antibioitc shot….he THREW A RODEO FIT!!!!

He went this-away and that-away, pulled and tugged….husband set him free and he lunged about at a canter so many circles he 'bout churned himself into butter.   Then he went to walking all over the yard in a fretful way.

The vet said it was a text-book classic case of husband nicking an artery and getting alittle antibiotic in the bloodstream.  If he had gotten it all in the artery, it would have killed him.    Can you imagine, him dropping right there at husband's feet?  bug-eyed

He gave more fluids today for several hours and he ate a little.  Business trips are being canceled, business meetings aren't happening…forget any time for anything but horse business.  I'm sorta getting concerned how this is affecting husband's job, our finances, etc.  I want Snickers fully healed…but I'm beginning to wonder just how long this can go on?  I guess we still need God's serious intervention.  I thought we were out of the woods.

Oh, we have been concerned for you and Snickers. We will continue to pray for his recovery.

We had unhappy horse news this evening. DS#1 called to say their mare in foal and close up was found dead.

Don't know any details but it just breaks our hearts…

Oh Jersy Lady I'm so very sorry.  How sad!  I just can't even imagine.  Bless her little heart…

Thank you all for your prayers.  DH  is going around sighing and sounding so down.  I'm getting concerned about this stress and how he is processing it. (or not processing it)  We need something seriously happy to happen…something to offset the stress.

I know that sounds maybe alittle silly, but if you do pray, maybe ask the Lord for a nice surprise to help my husband, Dirk.  He sure needs it.

I know you don't know me, but I am praying for your horse.  I have a huge soft spot for animals of any kind and especially one that is so important to a family like Snickers is.  I understand exactly what you mean about wondering about the job and the finances etc.  All you can think about is your sick baby.  I recently lost my 19 year old cat to kidney disease and it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  But all the surgeries were just too much for us to afford.  I pray that something good will happen for you folks and for Snickers too.  I know it may seem harsh for me to say this, but just try and remember that God has some kind of plan.  That is one of the hardest things to do when something like this is going on, I know, but he isn't putting you folks and Snickers through this for nothing.  With love and prayers,   Angela/aka Junebug

oooOh, might have a bit of good news!   I met the vet today and he said Snickers' heart rate was down from 84 to 72.  happy-flower  It still needs to go down to 40 something, but it's down all the same.

He had said about two weeks was the telling time and we should start seeing some improvement….and it's been right at two weeks.  SO…hopefully we're on our way home.

He also said to give Snicks some alfalfa hay so I gave him a flake.  He was chewing when I left and DH gave him 10 liters of fluid after.

Gosh, he's lost a lot of weight.  I could see his spine.

Tomorrow, a gal is coming to meet my Morgan, Ranger, whom I've been thinking of re-homing.  This gal sounds special so hopefully things will go nicely.

Thank yall so much for praying.  You just have no idea how much that means to me.

I'm so sorry about your kitty.  Nineteen is a long time to love a kitty and I am quite sure you will get to see your darling when you cross through the pearly gates.  cool

Any bit of good news is great. Hope he keeps eating. It is so hard because they can't tell you how they are feeling-like: I don't look so good but I think I feel just a little better today. We pray Dirk can find peace too.

Junebug-I know how it is with older kitties. Our two 18 year olds are gone. Such sweet memories! That was a couple years ago. Then last summer the neighbor had 3 little yellow kittens for adoption. They live and work in our barn. We love them dearly and enjoy watching their youthful antics while we milk and do chores.

Again…good news!  happy-flower  His hemocrits are up, his white count is down, his liver enzymes are down…the vet was very happy!

We're to increase his feed to a piggish amount pink-pig and keep giving him some fluids.

When I went by the vet today to pick up some new lines and syringe flushes, I asked about the bill.  surprised  She printed it off for me, and handed it over in an envelope.  I'm scared to look.   Huge amounts of IV bags, about 5 or 6 vet visits, a giant bottle of antibiotics, lines, syringes, flushes, a blood transfusion, and multiple draws of blood for tests.

Anybody wanna guess what it's going  to be?  My first guess is somewhere in the $1200 to $1800 range.  Makes my palms sweat just thinking about it.

Hooray for good news—-that will at least make opening the envelope a bit easier.  I will not even begin to take a guess——any vet bill seems big.  My Genie ran through a gate and gashed opne her chest a couple of years ago.  Debridement of the wound, a drain placed, stitches and abx put me out about $300 if I remember correctly.  At least you didn't have to have him at the clinic and pay board on top of it.  I will keep up the prayers for Snickers.

Great news!!!  and I won't even guess on the bill, but hoping it's not more than your guess!
