Oh,Flatlander…my heart breaks for you too. You know I know exactly how you feel. DH had to go to town and get milk replacer which I am sure does not taste like the good milk the calves are used to. The barn cats are wondering why their milk pan is empty. I washed our milk pitchers and put them away for now. We had just started improvements in our little milk parlor. That is on hold now. We are not sure what we are going to do. How are things going at your place?
Thanks to all the kind words and thoughts from our CITR friends :)
I'm very down and sad of course…right now I don't want another cow, simply I can't replace her.
On the other hand, we were already looking for a friend for her, one cow is so lonely and looked at a very cute(bred) Dexter.
Of course I canceled the whole deal Monday, but the lady replied back that she is keeping the Dexter over winter and will get back to me in spring..if by then I changed my mind, I can still buy her (and price would remain the same) and her calf..if not that is fine too.
For now I think I stick with the goats….but I might think different come spring..time will tell.

OfflineI am so sorry for both of your loses. I wanted to let you know I have heard a rumor that some cattle feed has been tainted and a few of the dairy farms around here have lost cows to it and are suing the feed company. I don't have cows of my own and so wish I did. It might be something you might want to look into if they are both unexplained deaths. I don't know any of the details about the feed. I know a few years ago we lost a beloved family dog to tainted dog food from China. Broke my heart to think I thought I was taking good care of her and believed what i was feeding her was healthy and then found out it was poison. My thoughts are with you both.

My sympathies to both of you on the loss of your beloved cows. You must feel so heartsore. They were lucky cows to live with loving families.
