I ran across your forum while searching for a dough conditioner recipe. I emerged from our computer room three hours later, with a huge stack of recipies to be tried, and a favorite new blog to follow! I am so anxious to break out my oven mits and get baking! You have a wonderful site and I'm so happy to have found it!

I'm Michelle from SW Missouri. I have 3 teenage daughters and we currently have 5 horses, 3 Irish Dexter cows and 5 cats. We have had chickens, turkeys and goats at one time or another over the course of the last 20+ years, but my current job has me traveling out of state at least 4 days a week, so we had to downsize a little. I love the recipe section, and how you are so brave to try everything I would love to try! Because of the excellent instructions and pictures (I'm all about the pictures!) I have made the cream cheese and have the ingredients to make mozzarella cheese on order. I'm hoping that our Irish Dexter, Rosie is more cooperative than your Clover!

Hi all! My name is Nicky & I live in Alaska. DH is in the Air Force and I have two sons, ages 6 & 10. I grew up in Northern California, and spent my summers on a ranch in Idaho. I've been subscribed to Country Woman magazine since I was 11 and always knew I'd live on a farm someday. Well, I don't. yet. :)
I am love photography, scrapbooking- I'm addicted to Photoshop, and I also sew (a little) and crochet.
I found this site a few weeks ago. I can't remember how I found it, but I spent hours and hours going back through the archives, bookmarking crafts and recipes to try. I love the farm stories. And the fact that Suzanne doesn't like driving that icy road cracks me up (because I live in Alaska, and we have 7 months of icy roads). Then again, we also have studded tires. ;)
Anyway, I've learned a ton so far, and can't wait to get to know more people living this lifestyle! Oh, and my first attempt at ever making homemade bread (grandmother bread) is on my blog! It's funny! http://senovia1.blogspot.com/
Take care!
Nicky

Hi! My name is Julie and currently I am living in Germany. I'm married to an Army aviator (a Black Hawk pilot), who has served for almost 20 years. That means we've moved around a lot. We've been in Germany for eight years (11 total), but as we near retirement we are looking forward to starting a new life somewhere in the US. We want to settle somewhere on at least 40 acres and try our hand at gardening and farming. That's what we hope for anyway.
I am a mother to five kiddos, two boys and three girls; 14, 11, 8, 7, and 5. I was almost 30 before I had my first child, so I spent many years working at different jobs after college.
As I read many of the intro.s here, I was struck by the commonalities of many of us here. I've lived in Fayetteville, NC, my middle name is Suzette, I home school most of my children (my oldest is in Middle School), I'm raising military brats, my father-in-law is from West Virginia, and I'm a farmer wannabe. That's just a few of the things that stuck out to me as I scrolled through the introductions.
I've always wanted to own sheep (and a goat or two), so when I found Suzanne's blog, I knew it was a place I'd want to "hang out" and "visit". I'm looking forward to learning much from the forum!

Hi I am Michelle and live in the UK, I was in Alaska to visit my friend who emigrated there 10 years ago ( I haven't seen her since!) in June 09 and loved it. I was there for 3 weeks and love the place and the food! I found this site because I was searching for a hot pocket recipe for my 16yr old daughter. We can not get them in England
I have a dog called Ruby who is my little baby hahaha and we live with my mum in sunny Essex. I love to cook and I grow quite a few different vegetables in my garden as well.
My friend wants me to move to Alaska so she has some company who understands her sense of humour hahaha I might move one day as it is a lovely place but I wouldn't want to be there in the winter – too cold for me lol.
This site is fantastic and I have spent at least 2 hours just looking around it.
Keep up the good work

Hi, I'm Patty and I live in southeastern Ohio. I am 57, married and have 4 grown children – 2 girls and 2 boys. All of them live on or around Dover AFB, Deleware. Both my daughters are in the Air Force Reserves and my oldest son is an Air Force Academy graduate of 2006' and is a 1st Lt. at Dover. He is presently is preparing to go to Afganistan (spelling?) in Aug. My youngest was in the Ohio Air National Guard and served a tour in Iraq. He came through that safely but after being home 6 months he had a serious truck accident and lost a leg and had serious brain trauma. This was in 2007' and he is doing very well. Brain trauma is very tricky though so he still has some problems. Sorry, I didn't mean to get in my "woest me" mode. My husband a I have 5 acres in the country after being in town for 37 years. He raises bees and calls it his "farm". I have 2 outside dogs and 4 cats and I inherited all of them from my daughters who moved out of state! No way was I going to let these animals go to the pound! I also love to read and am still trying to teach myself to knit which is why I enjoy Suzanne's posts about knitting.
Well, after I have written a book, I think I need to get off here. I tend to ramble! I hope I did this correctly.

Hi Everyone! I'm Connie from northern Ontario Canada. I live about 4 hours north of Toronto. I'm a Mom to 2 girls (19 & 15) and Grandma to a sweet little Granddaughter that lives with me. My hubby is from Texas and we've been together 12 years now. I used to live on a farm but just live in the country now. I hope to own another farm someday.
Anyone who knows me will tell you I should have been born 100 years earlier. I love all things country, antique, and primitive.
The only pet we have now is a lop eared bunny named Charlie. He lives in our home and is litter trained.
I found this site by blog hopping one day and I'm hooked! I love it!

Hi, my name is Lori. I'm married, we have five sons between us, and 9 grandbabies (so far). We're building a farm from scratch (sound familiar lol?). At the moment we have 4 hens laying and 2 roos, 3 New Zealand buns ~ two of which will soon give me babies, four large dogs, 6 cats, 2 kittens, and a brooder that is waiting for delivery of 57 chicks, 8 ducklings, and 8 turkeys. Actually, it's an 'apartment' brooder. As soon as the pig tractor can get built, I'll also be adding three little pigs. Eventually (after the barn is built and the woods have been turned into pasture) I will have goats as well.
We're building earth bermed/living roof cordwood homes, one for my parents and one for us, and an earth bermed cordwood barn. It gets very hot here in the summer and we get some pretty severe weather, and earth berming solves a lot of problems. For the time being we're living in a teeny camper. A very teeny camper. It's 7 x 14. We have an attached cat house, a sawdust potty, lots of dog runs, a chicken palace, and bunnies living in more space than we have *G* We are hoping to start construction on my parent's home next month, as well as the small guest cabin. Once that cabin is done we'll be moving into it ~ and I will feel like I have a palace just like the buns!
I have my garden started, love to can and dehydrate what I grow, and I'm definitely enjoying the fresh eggs.

Hi, all. *hesitant wave* I'm Robin G. Been reading the Chickens in the Road blog for a long time, figured it was time to step into the forum.
I'm actually about as far from country-living as possible; I'm an urban chick in her mid-twenties (nearly to late-twenties — ack!). But I'm a nanny (technically the kids come to me, rather than my living in their home, but "nanny" sounds way cooler than "babysitter"), so I'm at home a lot and spend a great deal of time in my kitchen with an infant strapped to my chest and a two-year-old sneaking bites of shortening. I love the recipes around here because, frankly, I'm on a very restricted budget (and just lost my extra-money job — trying not to panic!), and cooking from scratch at home is SO much cheaper than preprepared food or, God forbid, restaurants.
I like gardening (I have a plot at my mother-in-law's, since my husband and I live in an apartment and have no yard), and canning/freezing, and experimenting with recipes, and simple cheese-making. I can get a single 3 pound whole chicken to last through four dinners, not including rendered fat and stock. I make my own baby food. I don't own a microwave. I wish I owned a goat.
I'm looking forward to joining in around here!

Hey y'all! I"m a 32yr old starting-from-scratch farmer/farmwife. We've just moved to a tiny little earthbermed cabin on a ridge in Tennessee with our goats, chickens, rabbits, dogs, cat, parakeet, and broken down tractor. The previous owners left us a fantastic garden plot that's ready to go (and I'll be doing an awful lot of hoeing since, ya know, the tractor's on the fritz). The goats are in their temporary pen, the chickens are in their temporary pen, the rabbits are in their temporary house, and the amount of work we have ahead of us to get over all those temporary's is staggering! BUT! I know we can do it.
I grew up in rural Georgia, but lived "in town". My husband (future referenced as "my old man", just to avoid any confusion) is from chicago. Suffice it to say, we have a drastic learning curve ahead of us! We've always had gardens, and I've done some canning in the past, but this blog has been such an inspiration, I can't wait to see what else I can make!

Hi! I always think I'm going to sound like a huge dork when I fill out these things, but here goes…My name is Kelley and I live in the Midwest. I live in the suburbs, about as far away from the country as you can get! My husband and I have been married for 15 years, and we have a son who will be 10 years old in a few months.
I've been reading this blog for about a month now, can't even remember how I found it, but I'm glad I did! I get a kick out of Clover, and Little Crooked Hen and her man, Mr. Hyde!
I love to cook, bake, read, listen, learn, veg out, sew, make cards, scrapbook, sleep and enjoy the occasional margarita. I like sushi, Mexican food and have developed a deep attachment to my Keurig coffee maker. That's it, I think!

Hi all! Just started reading your wonderful blog. Seems like there is so much great (and entertaining) info here! I am a 40 year old nurse, married to a wonderful man. We have a blended family…i have a 15 year old daughter and he has a 17 yo and 15 yo daughter…of course they are just OURS now! We live on the outskirts of a moderately large city with dreams of moving to the country. This year we have started learning new things-once alien to this city girl-like bread making and vegtable gardening. Of course, there are many more goals on our ever growing list! Thanks for welcoming me to your "place".

Hi everyone. My name is Sandi and I live in Windsor, Colorado with my dear sweet husband Erik and our two beautiful children Clara (4) and Oliver (2). I'm not biased or anything … really! We've been married just over 5 years. I'm a stay at home mom – as you can tell by my username. We don't have any farm animals but we do have a bit of a zoo – 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a fish. Lots of fur around here.
I'm addicted to crafting. Scrapbooking, sewing, and bread baking are what I spend most of my time doing. I love to learn how to make and cook new things so I'm really enjoying this forum and blog!

A friend recently introduced me to Chickens in the Road, and in doing
so, insured her position as a "forever friend". This is an absolutely
wonderful place to spend hours and hours of time, instead of doing
things I should be doing. Maybe my "forever friend" will come clean my
house while I'm enjoying myself here. She should, you know. She's
already made Grandmother Bread, and Marmalade, and yogurt in a crock
pot, and soap. I think tomorrow she's making pound cake. Gosh! I have
so much catching up to do.
I feel like a kid in a candy shop. So many recipes. So little
time. I'm going to gain 90 pounds. I just know it.
Mod Edit: moved over here from Newby topic from 2/20/2010 to keep everyone together!

Hello, my name is Laura. I am 43, I
have been a high school art teacher for 12 years. I live about 30
miles outside of St. Louis MO in a log home, on 2 1/2 acres. I am
married to the father of my children, we have three boys, one 11 and 7
year old twins. My friends call me a hippie, but I am just concerned
about the environment and like to feed my family food that does not have
pesticides or preservatives. I just heard about this site last night
and was so excited I joined this morning. I even created a fairy garden
today, and planted my first seeds for my veggie garden. I have never
blogged, so this is new to me. I have been trying to get my husband to
agree to chickens – I am hoping I get my way this year.
Moderator note: Moved this post from a thread called "Hello new obsession" so we would be able to find and greet Laura better!

Hi all! My name is Gena. I'm a 41 yr old, married to my amazing DH for 21 years. We have 2 lovely daughters, ages 15 and 20 (next month).
We live in Phoenix, AZ, so I'm a city girl with a country heart. I love gardening. My hubby has built me 2 raised garden beds, one for herbs and one for veggies. This ensures that there are very few weeds for me to pull. They are also on an automatic sprinkler system, a neccesity in our hot summers! I also have a small hummingbird/butterfly garden with a bench and fountain for me to enjoy. We planted 2 fruit trees last month(apricot and nectarine), and the hubby says we will plant a few oranges next winter. He spoils me!
We used to have 3 chickens in the past, but they attracted too many mice to our city backyard. I would love to have chickens again, but that is the one place where DH draws the line now.
I love to cook, but we have changed our diets drastically in the past year following my hubby's heart attack. I have had to relearn to cook in new and sometimes exciting, sometimes frustrating ways.
One of my favorite hobbies is amateur photography. You can find some of my work on webshots.com under ladychef8. Most of my recent stuff gets posted on my Facebook page. I feel so fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth. There is always something wonderful to photograph!
We have 3 cats, a Russian tortoise, a desert tortoise, and my hubby has a 90 gallon salt water coral reef. It is filled with living corals, 6 fish, starfish, crabs, shrimp, a sea cucumber, a sea urchin and millions of other tiny creatures.
I have loved reading this blog for the past month or so, and am looking forward to talking with you all here on the forums!

Hi, I'm Lisa. I'm 42 and live in west-central Indiana. I'm single and would love to be more rual than I am right now, but that's still a dream. I work in administration in a large children's hospital. I just started canning and dehydrating and gardening, and love learning all the country crafts. I plan to try more canning and candle making this summer.
