My name is Therese, and my online name is MousE…. long story there.  I'm holding at 52ish, I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada, in the great Pacific Northwest.  I was raised in the southern United States, and my family moved to Canada in 1971 (my mom was Canadian).  I've worked in the entertainment industry my entire working career as a technician for theatre, music, dance, etc.  I'm single, one married daughter, two grandchildren whom I adore, and I share a house with a lifelong friend.  I'm currently trying to get out of the industry, and hope to retire by buying a hobby farm on Vancouver Island with my best friend.  The idea is that we would each have our own dwelling, and share a communal kitchen and garden, with goats and chickens.  And dogs.  And cats.  I read a lot, and am currently designing a family tree website for my mother's huge extended family, whom I am only now getting to know.  I just bought a secondhand Mac and am learning to use it…. what a nice change from a PC.

And I love to cook! Looking forward to maybe sharing some recipes in the forum.

I StumbleUponed this website a few months ago, and I just love it.  Great recipes, great stories and photos, great writing.  Thank you, Suzanne!

Hello Everyone.  I am not new to this website but new to the forum.  I was introduced to the awsome CITR website some time ago….and I LOVE IT!!!

I am a 34 year old stay at home Mother of three amazing children…Landon-13, Serena-11, and Asher-8.  I have been married to my husband for 14 years.  We are a Christian family.  We live on a dairy farm owned by my husband's parents.  I LOVE the life.  We try to grow/raise all of our food.  And I also do most of my baking and food prep at home.  I am hoping to start in cheeses soon :-)

We milk about 145 cows and have around 300 on the farm.  My daughter and I also have horses, we have a cat, chickens, and a beagle!  Someday we hope to raise and milk a few goats.

My children are involved in the local 4-H so we are always raising projects for that also.

We love the country life and wouldn't have it any other way.

Glad to be a part of the forum…finally!!!!

Hi everyone, my name is Pat. I am 26, married for 3 years, and have 2 boys ages 2 years and 2months. I am currently living in a small town in Saskatchwan Canada. My husband and I are hoping to buy land and build in the next 3 years. Once on the farm I was to raise chickens, cows, possibly goats, I also plan to plant a large garden and possibly an orchard.

While we are stuck in town I will content myself with a small square foot garden and my baking and crafts.

I am currently on a one year maternity leave to care for my newborn son, but I do plan on going back to work. I work in a bank in town.

I found this website while I was looking up cheese making.

I always love to try something new, wether it be cooking, baking, crafts, or farming.

I am sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee and after looking at this thread I realized I haven't ever posted on it.  I lurk on the forum/blog alot and am just now getting brave enough to post more.

My name is Laura, I am 44 years old and live in the thumb of Michigan.  My hubby and I have 3 awesome kidlets—Kara (11), Joshua (9) and Shannon (7).  We have 2 dogs (aussie-Copper and beagle Betsy), 2 indoor and many outdoor cats, chickens and 2 quarter horse mares (Genie and Tess—they are my profile pic).  Our family is involved with our church and also with cub scouts and 4-H.  My oldest shows chickens and her horse at the fair.  We are also busy running to sports such as soccer and hockey depending on the time of year.  I love reading, writing, crafts, gardening, cooking, baking and being outdoors.  My husband has an excavating business and also farms, so between him, the kids and the pets I am more than familiar with dirt!!!  I am a social butterfly and love to laugh, chat and have a good time.  The Lord has blessed me with some great friends who are also into the country lifestyle, a couple of whom are on here. Sun2  I dream of getting more chickens, some goats, having a bigger garden with some fruit trees and finally building a new house on some property we bought a couple of years ago.

Hi everyone around the nation. Call me Patti.   First, I have to say that I am in constant awe of the internet.  I am 63, a grandma living in Fullerton, California and I can talk with people all over the country AT ONE TIME!!!!!

I guess for most "young" people, this would be a "yawn, ho hum" revelation.   For me, it's a neverending amazement.  I'm a city girl.  Athough, I've spent some time at country living.   When I was just 3 or 4 years old, my parents (along with my two brothers) attempted living on a farm.  My mom and dad were both Missouri farm raised.   But by the time I was 5, we had moved into town and my dad decided he'd try his hand at operating a truck stop cafe.   Sorry……..droning somewhat.  Anyway, fastforward to approx. 1993/94, spent about a year on Vashon Island, Washington pretending to be a little country girl raising chickens, ducks, and sheep.  But, alas, it was not to be and wound up back in California and now retired and loving every second of it.

I've never blogged before; or for that matter, ever joined any kind of forum.  For you experienced bloggers, it's probably not too difficult to surmise that.  But I so enjoy reading about everyone's recipe finds, canning dos and don'ts, animal stories, and just conversation in general.  This website seems to touch a soft spot in my heart by bringing up fond memories of my parents and their roots and all the family gatherings.  I will be coming here a lot!!

Hello everyone! My name is Shannan, I am a stay at home mom of three, two boys 12 and 10 and a girl age 6. We are currently living just outside Columbia, South Carolina and hope to move somewhere back up north in the near future. I am from New York and my husband is German. We have 2 dogs both mixed breed, a couple of black cats and new to us this year 12 chickens, hens and roosters. Our dream is to get out of the burbs and back to the country, it was not our choice to move here it was a family obligation. I would love to make some friends that are interesed in the same things as us, farming, cooking from scratch, homesteading, and living simply. I am glad to be here and hope to learn a lot of new things from all of you.

Hi! I'm Heather, and I found this blog/forum on the Barnheart Facebook group when someone posted a quote from Suzanne. I really enjoy it and spent several hours the first few days reading old posts to catch up. I've always wanted to live on some land and be more self-sufficient, but that's not the way my life went. Maybe someday. Meanwhile, I live vicariously through other people who do have land! My grandparents and ancestors were 'hill people', 'mountain folk', 'from the holler', depends on which ones you ask! lol So it's really in our blood. Even my kids want out of here, as long as they can take their best friends, of course. Ideally I'd love to be in W. Va. or the Western part of Va., either state; like I said, maybe someday. I love to garden, flowers and veggies. I especially love to grow tomatoes, which is strange because I don't eat them, but I get the best compliments on them so I guess that's why. I do make sauce out of them, though. Lately I've been reading a lot of old-timer recipes because I think it's important to know how to feed your family from scratch, since certainly the corporate food suppliers are going to either crash and burn or hike the prices too high to buy the food at the rate things are going. I really enjoy those recipe books. I recently found a local grass-fed, free ranged, organic beef supplier and made my first purchase, and I just got my first local fresh and free-range organic eggs from my husband's co-worker, and I'd really like to make cheese and butter! I finally know how to make bread (thanks to Mother Earth News' article taken from a book) and I'd like to try canning soon. I don't have the best immune system and I'm sensitive to a lot of things, including a lot of foods, so I hope that getting the chemicals out of my food will help. And I like the idea of eating local and what it does for all of us. I read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle twice and recently The Omnivore's Dilemma, and I really had an eye opening. I'm not a ranting, raving tree-hugger, but I don't mind telling you I've hugged a couple of trees anyway.  I love this earth, and I've always said that having your hands in the earth is as physically close to God as you'll get. Then I read a quote from some apparantly famous person that was similar, but I'm sure I said it first. Anyway, that's my story. Not much to tell.

Hi there, I live in Maryland with my hubby and new baby boy. I love
this website and all the fun ideas. I wish we lived on a farm and
someday we will but for now I just dream about it and shop at the health
food store. I found Suzanne's webiste while looking for a dough
enhancer recipe and I'm SO glad I did. It's a great recipe and a lot
better than buying 1 oz. for $6.99 at my local market. So yeah, I like
taking care of my fam and making goodies at home. I appreciate people
that like to do the same and don't mind sharing :).

Hi…my name is Celia and I am from rural Maine.  Snow has finally gone and spring is on it's way. Thank goodness, as it seemed like an awfully long winter to me.  I am enjoying reading all about the goings on on this site. Fascinating!

I am waiting for Fiddleheads to appear along the river banks….and my man that i buy a large bag from will be letting me know soon when they are ready. Sent them to some friends in the midwest. I also send them "Yelloweye" beans for baking homemade baked beans. Send then cans of "Bakewell cream" also for baking biscuits. A lot of different things in different states to try, isn't there?

My husband and I are retired and enjoying our days of leisure now & then. I am on oxygen 24/7 so that kind of hinders some activies but I keep going as much as possible.

I've been a fan of the blog for a good while, and joined the forum about a year ago, but never posted.  I'm a terrible lurker at times.  LOL  This just seemed like a good time to say hi, so "Hi!!!!!".

I live in Davisville, WV, which is just outside Parkersburg (big town).  I grew up near Glenville (one horse town), though, and would much rather be back there, but my hubby wouldn't be able to find as good of a job as he has here, so that's not going to happen. We are looking for a few acres more out to itself, however, and I think that would make me just about as happy.  I just don't care for living in a neighborhood.  I'm the kind that likes to keep mostly to herself.

Anyhoo, I am 42 this year, am married with 3 daughters (21, 19, and *almost* 12), a big white cat, and an even bigger German Shepherd, who is the biggest baby of all of them put together.  LOL  I enjoy keeping a veggie garden, but not so much the deer who like to eat it up.  The deer and I are currently engaged in a battle of wits, and I'm winning at the moment!  Although, that could change at any time.

I consider myself to be an artist, although I haven't done much creating over the last couple years.  You see, I deal with a lot of back pain, and it's hard to get "in the mood" when you're hurting.  But when I do work at it, I like making art dolls and small figures.  I actually have made a few little sets of miniature mushrooms for terrariums and such, recently.  I will post on my siteTurtle when I've got them on Etsy, in case anyone is interested in that sort of thing.  :-)

Well, I guess that's enough info for now.  Perhaps it was "too much info".  LOL

It's great to meet you fine folks, and I hope to become a friend!

Happy Weekend!

I found Suzanne's site thru the Canning2 list last year and keep coming back to read and laugh.  Sponsored a couple of the Ball Blue Book giveaways and have finally decided to join the forums.  Only hesitation was because of time.  It's coming up on busy season here at our homestead and I don't get time to do more than check email some summer days.  But ya'll seem to have too much fun to pass up so here I am.

I'm a homeschooling, canning and preserving, knitting, spinning, sewing, weaving and more mom to one 10yo boy, about 3 dozen chickens and a few sheep.  DH is the main vegetable and fruit gardener but I fill in when I can and try to keep a cutting bed of flowers going throughout the growing season.  DH and I say we're living the good life and we're not referring to the Nearings' book! ;) I grew up in a family that lived a lot like we do now but in between I went to school then worked for 15-20 years before we came full circle again.  It's nice to be here.

My name is Teresa. I heard about this site from one of my Canning groups. I have been reading for 2 days!!! Can't get enough. I'm 52…53 yrs old? No children. Married late in life to a wonderful man. Moved from Texas where I grew up to Florida. We live on 5 acres, dirt road, no next door neighbors. There are no gas stations here or grocery stores. We do however have 4 churches and a community center ( little one room building that has a new metal roof and a new paint job)… And it is this community center that all activities happen. Like voting, reunions, birthdays, 4H etc. It is also where the book moblie (library on wheels) stops. LOL. I have always loved the "old ways" and like to do things myself. My husband allows me all the room to do this. We have a large garden. So of course he had to build a wall of shelves to hold the canning. Then I got a Foodsaver, for my jars and vac. pak all dried food. Now I have a dehydrator. It all ties together. I also make cold process soap. Bath bars, shampoo bars, laundry soap, even dog bars due to the fact that our dog Bailey loves to roll in deer poop! We have 3 cats…they live inside the house…because we also have too many coyotes and a panther. I have also been bugging DH for chickens. I do not know how to take care of them…but I still want them. I love chickens…I can watch them for hours. When we go into the farm co-op and they have baby chicks…I just want to love them all. When something comes in the mail about chickens, I tell my husband that its an omen. My husband will not eat a store bought egg, so we have been getting our yard eggs from a friend that I see at the book mobile. She tells me today that she is moving closer to her parents to take care of them and do I want ALL of her chickens!!! I can not sit still. We are going to have to jump thur hoops to get a chicken house built, but it is really going to happen. Yikes…I am rambling…so glad to be here…this is right up my alley…
