Hi my name is Jamie!  I am a stay at home mo of a 13 year old, 17 month old and one on the way.  I am the only female in my house thus far and my husband is so excited that he has a little girl on the way!

I am in the process of homeschooling my kids and teaching all of my kids how to cook the old fashioned way!  My kids love reading the CITR website and looking for new recipes for us to try.

I am still trying to figure out how to put my picture up for my icon instead of being a chicken but I guess that comes in due time!

Hi to All~

My name is Katie and I have two grown kids.  I'm a shepherdess living on a small ranch in Northern Arizona at an altitude of 5, 700 ft.  The terrain is considered "high prairie" where winters see a lot of chilly, howling wind, snow drifts (the kind you can get lost in), and fog. I raise and breed Jacob sheep, Jacob X and Cormo X.  I do all my own husbandry having a nursing background.  I assist with lambings, do all my own castration and docking as well.  I am also an avid spinner and knitter and when available, I sell my fleece.  I'm thrilled to be on board!  Looking forward to chatting with all of you.chicken

Hi! My name is Christina. I am a SAHM of 2 girls, ages 4 and 8. We live in a very small town in SE Kansas. I just got into canning, preserving and trying to live as homemade as possible for us right now. My husbands grandmother has been teaching me a ton on the subject and then I found this site which has been extremely helpful as well! I love all the recipes here!!

Hi my name is Bonnie. My husband and son and I have a 10 acre farm
in Pennsboro, WV. We have a horse, Flash, 2 jersey cows, Buttercup and
Clara Belle, 4 month old jersey bull calf Mr. T Bone , 3 spoiled dogs, 1
spoiled cat, and alot of nice chickens. We have had turkeys and ducks
in the past and would like to get a few of each again for pets.  Anyone
have any they want to sell at a reasonable price? We love to see the
chickens running free during the day but put them in the coop at night.
Would love to have a few ducks and turkeys running around too. We have
plenty of fresh milk, butter and eggs of course. We also have a garden, a
few fruit trees, can some of our fruit and vegetables. We just enjoy
working with the animals and taking care of them. We love Chickens in
the Road. Love to hear about others on here who love the country life
too.

hello My name is Meadow and I live in Mississippi on about 30 acres. This summer my two boys and I incubated our first batch of chickens. I fell in love. They are only about 3 1/2 months old but they are so full of personality. We have 9 chickens and I am pretty sure that 5 are roosters. My sweet husband built them a coop with 16 ft to run in an enclosed pen. We move the pen every week to give them new grass and fresh dirt. This is all new and I hope to learn a lot of chicken wisdom from everyone.chicken

Hi, my name is Debbie.

I live in one of the largest counties in central Virginia.  We are in a very rural area of the county where we live on 6 acres of what was orginally 149 acres of my grandparents farm.  All of the 149 acres is still family owned and I love having my youngest sister living right down the lane.  We built a house here 5 years ago and I wouldn't trade living in the country for nothing.  I have a 16 yr old daughter and my S.O. and his 11 yr. old son now live with us as well.  At one time, my daughter and I were raising over 100 chickens along with several turkeys and rabbits.  We are now only keeping about 30 chickens.  We also have 10 Koi, 35 goldfish, and 2 German Shepherds.  This was our 5th season selling at our local farmers market where we've sold everything from baked goods, jams, & jellies to loofah soap, decorative gourds, and homemade laundry detergent.  I love canning veggies from our garden as well as cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and trying to do for ourselves as much as possible.  I enjoy finding 'cast-offs' and recycling them into something I can use.  I wish I could say that I am a stay-at-home mom but that isn't the case.  I work for a major international corporation about 40 miles away from home but wish I could be at home to do all the 'fun' stuff I really want to do.  I just made ricotta cheese last week (loved it!) after seeing the post on CITR.  Now I can't wait to render some LARD this weekend!  One of my friends that raises pastured pork just gave me 40-50 lbs of pork fat so I've been patiently waiting for the weekend so I'll have the time to work with it.  I found the CITR site about a month ago and have become ADDICTED.  I just can't wait to see what will be posted next!

Hi, my name is judyh.

I will be retiring at the end of this month and hope to be able to follow the Forum more closely and to trying some of the recipes, crafts, and projects I've read about on CITR.

My husband and I are currently living with my 97 year old Dad on his 158 acre farm in Southern Roane County, WV (at Newton) where my 4 sisters and I grew up.   I am looking forward to growing vegetables, flowers, fruits, nuts & herbs next spring & summer and doing some canning, freezing & drying of our harvest.

I've enjoyed reading CITR for the past 3-4 years (maybe more by now) and following Suzanne's many advertures.  Having grown up on a farm with animals, I've particularly enjoyed reading about and seeing Suzanne's photos of her animals.

I finally made it to her party this year and enjoyed meeting so many others with similar interests.  I look forward to reading your posts and chatting with you in the future.

Hi!! My name is Meg and I'm 23 years old. I'm the mother of a two year old daughter who keeps me very busy. I also work part time. I joined because I'm very interested in canning-I've just always been a little scared of it. For the last few years I've given out handmade gifts for Christmas presents (boxes filled with baked goods, chocolate spoons, ect.) and I'd like to find some new homemade gift giving ideas as well.  We also just recently moved into a new home that has a nice sized yard and I'm planning on starting a garden there next year-wish me luck, I know nothing about gardening! I've already learned a few new things-I made my first batch of all purpose cleaner and window cleaner the other night and I am planning on making my own laundry detergent as soon as I can aquire a 5 gallon bucket. I am very excited to have found this website!

Hi!

My name is Lynne and I live in WV.  I have two daughters and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is serving in the Army and my youngest is in 4th grade!

I am getting ready to farm full time.  I spent 17 years in the financial services industry and I am ready for a change.  (also scared to death….)

I have Alpine dairy goats, a cow, chickens, guineas and two great labs.  We also keep hogs for 4-h projects each year.

I am hoping to start a dairy, but the regulations are mind-numbing.  I want to sell cheese and small amounts of milk.  We shall see how all of this turns out!

Hi I'm Cheryl and I live in Southern Ontario, Canada.

I've been reading on here for a week or two and finally signed up.  I recognized some people from Canning2.  I have 3 dogs and love making treats for them and recently started a dog business with wholesome treats, no sugar, salt or preservatives.  The dogs just love them.  I also make toys, blankets and therapeutiic bags to warm up their beds or blankets.

I love cooking and canning and hoping to get a good dehydrator soon so I can dry lots of stuff.  My garden this year didn't do so well, but I'm hoping for better results next year.  Last year we canned lots of salsa, tomatoes, apples, applesauce, peaches, plums, pears and soup.  This year we did tomatoes, tomato juice, apple, pear and peach juices (thanks steam juicer).  Froze lots of corn, green beans, and a lot of different berries.

I love doing crafts, crocheting, knitting, a bit of sewing, matting/framing pictures and always looking to learn something new. I still want to learn how to quilt and hoping that is something I'll be able to start in the near future.

I'm looking forward to getting to know more people!  Thanks for letting me join!

Hugs Cheryl

Hi everyone!  My name is Connie and I am recently retired from the corporate life (yay!) now living on a 15 acre hobby farm in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia with my husband, 5 dogs, 10 sheep, 7 goats and thousands of bees. We're for the most part gardening in raised beds and use a greenhouse as a season extender.  We've got a tiny very sad orchard of fruit trees who look like they wish they lived anywhere else but here!  I visit Suzanne's blog every morning so it feels weird introducing myself because I don't feel 'new' to the site.  My daughter set me up with a blog for my birthday last month (missingwillowfarm.com) so I can appreciate the thought and effort everyone puts into theirs!   Anyway… I'm happy to be here!

Hi all.  I am a sorta, kinda city girl transplanted to the mountains of Washington.  I am happily married to the most persevering and ambitious man that I know.  I have two beautiful daughters that I have homeschooled for the past 9 years working on 10.  The oldest has completed.  We live on twenty beautiful acreas.  We are avid gardeners trying to figure out how to garden year around in the the cold climate of Washington state.  That is quite a challenge.

I am a Registered Nurse of a little over twenty years specializing in open heart recovery.

We have just recently (two weeks) had a changing of the guard.  We go rid of our two halflinger horses and got goats (boy if my famiy in the south could see me now, that would look for the nearest straight jacket).  We are having a blast with them.

Our goal is to change this 20 acres into a productive gardens (with veggies, orchard and berry patches) and farm (goats and chickens).

We all like to cook except my husband–he just eats and counts himself as very fortunate.  The girls are especially talented and creative with vegetarian/vegan cuisine.

I enjoy quiliting when I have time.

I am glad for all the info that I have already gotten from here.  Thanks everyone.

Hello all…

I'm BeckyW from NE Kansas.  Our family lives on a small farm about 50 miles southwest of Kansas City.  I raise goats, both meat and dairy.  We also raise beef cattle and until recently had a small farrow to finish operation.  I have 3 daughters, only one is still at home though…she's a senior in high school.  We have been involved in 4-H for the past 14 years.

I enjoy cheesemaking, soap making, crochet, sewing, jewelry making (metal work), canning, baking.

I would love to give up my day job to be able to enjoy all of these things more…but something has to support my habits!!!

I'm enjoying all the recipes and posts from members on this site…I found this through the Cheesmaking.com site (Moosletter)…and Suzanne's cheese a month challenge….I'm IN!

Hello everyone!

My name is Chris. I've been married to the boy next door for almost 25 years, we have 3 teens and a 6 year old.  We live in the "burbs" just outside of Pittsburgh.  I came across this website while searching for fool proof pie crust and absolutely love the site and the crust!  I love the pictures, stories, recipes (The Best Pizza Dough is rising on my stove right now) and posts.  This website is a true treasure!  I truly enjoy all the stories of country life and farming.  We do live on a couple acres of ground and although permits prevent us from owning farm animals, I do plan on gardening more next spring and utilizing the canning recipes found on here.

Take care!

Greetings all, I am new to this forum and hope I have negotiated this correctly and am posting in the correct place.

My name is Ruth and I currently live in New Hampshire.  Have lived in most of the New England states at one time or another and love this part of the country.  Although I grew up in the city (Boston) I was raised with a DIY lifestyle which I continue.  Learned canning from my Mum and have always baked my own bread and participated in lots of fiber crafts (Quilting is my favorite but I also weave baskets, sew, make bobbin lace, do needlework, etc.).  My husband is a skilled gardener, grew up in a family of truck farmers and we have a pretty big garden.  This summer we were blessed with good weather, resulting in over 100 pounds of tomatoes but the hot peppers did not do so well.  Our pantry benefitted well from the good weather and we feel well stocked up for the winter this year.

I found this website and forum through the New England Cheesemaking Supply company, which I would strongly recommend to anyone who wants to learn to make cheese and enjoy great customer service!  Needless to say I am a cheesemaker and, although we do not currently own any livestock (other than a lazy but cuddly cat), my husband has also tried his hand at sausage making with great success.  One of our favorite activities together is Maple Sugaring in the early Spring which we do on just a small personal scale (2-4 gallons per year).   snuggle

Looking forward to hunkering down for the winter, I look forward to participating in this forum,

Ruth in NH  wave
