Hi my name is Heather Ellison and I live here in good ol WV in Vienna.  I have been married for 10 years and we have a 6 year old daughter.  We just moved back to the family owned property that I grew up on a few years ago and have since become obsessed with CHICKENS and GOATS!  SunSunHeart

We have a 10 year old Boxer that was our first child and 5 cats and a hamster living in my daughter's bedroom that I quite frequently forget about!  OOPS!

I adore my chickens and goat and thoroughly enjoy the stories and posts I see on here!  The lady at Borders in Vienna wrote this website down for me and suggested I look at it and now I'm hooked and obsessed!  I love being crafty and doing old crafts like needlepoint, crochet, and I even made my mom a quilt before she passed away.  I'm adopted by my grandparents since I was 6 weeks old so they were my Mom and Dad and they have both passed away, but I get my love for nature and animals and old time history and farming from them!  I feel closest to my dad when I'm sitting in my barnyard!  Heart

Can't wait to get to meet some of you!

Lovin' life in the country…even with an ornery goat that outsmarts me!

Hi, My name is Jill B and I live in Ky, I'm 52 years old and living out my child hood dreams of living on a farm. I have been married for 16 years to my best friend and we have 3 children amoung us all grown and away. We have 5 grandchildren and now for the fun ones. We have 7 dachshunds, 4 german shepherds, 5 Tn Walking Horses, 10 mini horses, 4 Mini Donkeys, 2 LaManacha /alpine goats , 2 Toggenburg goats and about 60 Rhode Island Red chicks. We have had zebras, camels, mini zebus and mini cows, mouflon and painted desert sheep also. As you can tell we love animals and between the 2 of us we have tried everything. We just got the goats and are trying our luck at milking. My husband has had migraines from eating ice cream so I'm hoping the goats milk made into ice cream will help him. He LOVES ice cream.  We have showed Walking Horses and Mini Horses in the past and now just satisfied to do trail riding.  I found this while trying to become more independent and learning how to save money by doing more at home. By the way Suzanne my husband loves the Grandma bread!  I look forward to learning and hopefully sharing here.

Hi!  My name is Renna. Though I have posted comments on the blog in the past, I've never posted in the forums.  I tried reading through all the introductions last night, but my eyes started crossing after about the 10th page. Bug Eyed  I'll try and work through them a little at a time.

I  don't live on a farm, or even in the country, but I do hope to, someday.  I'm married and a sort of empty nester.   My hubby has 4 grown kids, and I have two. My youngest, a daughter, is living in England. My oldest, a son, is living with Hubby and I, for economical reasons.  We have an old cat, a young Min Pin, and a middle-aged doxie/poodle. The doxie/poodle is a new addition, though we hope hope to find him a good family.  His mommy, our neighbor, had to go into long-term care this week, so Pepper came to live with us, as it was that or the pound. No

I'm 53, and my husband will be 68 next month, though all who meet him are shocked Surprised when they learn his age. He doesn't look it or act it. He's  health conscious, exercises, and takes care of himself (puts me to shame).

I homeschooled my youngest (daughter) from 3rd grade through high school.  I also co-owned and co-ran an online homeschooling message board forum for six years. My friend and partner (co-owner) and I gave it up in January of '08.  I still enjoy keeping up with friends I've made on that board, and I read it on a regular basis. No longer homeschooling, my interests have moved away a bit. Many of the moms there are young enough to be my kids. Laugh

I have a blog in which I talk about family, knitting, and 'stuff'. I'm a lazy blogger, though, and haven't posted in awhile.

I've done all sorts of crafting over the years, except quilting. Maybe some day I'll try it.

Knitting is my current craft passion. I always have at least 3 or 4 knitting projects going at one time. I am not a monogamous knitter.   I'd love to learn to spin my own wool some day.

Though not paricularly chatty in person, I tend to be long winded in writing. Help

I've been here for a while, but never introduced myself!

I found Suzannes blog while I was looking up information on Nigerian Dwarf Goats! :)  Started reading and have been hooked ever since.

I'm Beth,  a married mom of 4 living in central Indiana.  My oldest will be graduation high school in May and leaving for college in Sept. (not sure I'll I'm going to handle that!)  We've been living on a 4 and half acre farm for 5 years now.  We have 3 dogs (11 year old collie, 7 y.o border collie/aussie shephard cross and a 6yo beagle mix of some sort) 4 cats and until this fall the only "farm" animals we had were two horses.  In Nov. we brought home our first chickens, a pair of Sussex and a trio of barred rock banties.  Then over Thanksgiving we were given 7 leghorn chicks. (one died after a few weeks. He was a runt and just not growing with the others)  2 ended up being roos and we sold them on Monday.

Now I guess I'm going a little crazy because I'm wanting to turn this into a "real" farm.  I have 2 pair of goslings coming in April (American Buff and Pilgrim) and an order of 25 chicks in May. (11 straight run Sussex, 11 straight run Buckeyes and 3 Welsummer hens)  The plan is to keep the hens and send most of the roos to freezer camp. Which will be difficult because neither of us has ever butchered anything before.  But I feel strongly that if I am able to raise my own meat, then I should.  I'd like to be able to do this with most of our meat. I'd like to know that my food was raised right and treated well.  But I also know that I have limitations and I might not be strong enough to do it. But I gotta try!

I am also wanting some Nigi does for milk…but I'm going to wait a little while longer before I push for those.  Don't want the husband running for the hills! (although he did admit to me last night that he never would have dreamed he'd enjoy watching the chickens so much.) :)

I really enjoy reading CTR. It is often the highlight of my morning.  And I find Suzanne very inspiring!   Although my husband may insist that I stop reading because I've been thinking that a small flock of Jacob sheep might not be an awful thing. Laugh

Hi – my name is Jan. I live in Prospect Bay, Nova Scotia – up north of a whack of you all! I live in a house that my guy built and we have two kids – they are his kids and my step-kids, a big doofus lovely dog named Hoagy, and chickens – John Wayne, Dearie, Crow, Bea and Ruby. I am a writer and a psychotherapist.  I have two grown-up sons and three grandchildren. Yep I did it all over thirty years ago and now I'm doing it again.  I've lived on a farm before and I'd like to again but right now I'm happy with hens and a garden and a bit of a view of the ocean, two canoes and a sailboat. I like my life and I'm crazy about my sweet guy. I met him when I was fifty – we've been together 7 years and as crazy about each other as we were at the near first. Well, gotta go now – he's making dinner and I've got to clean my office so my step-son can have his guitar lesson in here and I've got a meeting to go to…

get real…get chickens

Hello!! I found your blog and forums on the SimplePress Forum forums!  You really do have a beautiful place here! Happy Flower

Let's see, a little about me…

My name is Stephanie and I am 30 years old.  I live in Missouri with my husband, 11 year old son, 2 dogs (Jake and Sam) and 2 cats (Oreo and Demon).  I have a lot of passions in life, including crafting – I sew, knit, crochet, bead, make jewelry and many other crafty things.  I do sell a lot of my handmade items on Etsy at http://craftysteph.etsy.com

Another one of my passions is tea.  I quit smoking cigarettes a little over two years ago after smoking a pack and a half a day for 16 years. (Yup, I started young!).  There were 3 things that sucessfully helped me stop smoking:
1.  the nicotene patch which I wore according to the directions in the package
2.  a hypnotherapy CD, "Stop Smoking Forever" by famous British hypnotist Glenn Harrold which I listened to every single night for over a month
3.  tea

Every single time I craved a cigarette, I drank a glass of tea instead.  Well it worked – I'm now cigarette free, but am COMPLETELY addicted to tea.  I love all sorts of tea – black, green, white, red, pu-erh, herbal, you name it…I've never met a tea I didn't like.

I do not in any way sell or manufacture tea.  However my passion for tea led me to start a blog on teas, my tea review blog, which now has a panel of 12 independent tea reviewers, plus myself.  If you love tea also, please come visit us at http://www.teareviewblog.com – we also have forums like the ones you have here (hence why I found you at the SimplePress Forums!)…well I'm trying to get the forums started, we're nowhere near as populated as yours are – but I think that's awesome – you have such a great forum here to go with your lovely blog :)

I also love meditation, yoga, reading, journaling, and listening to music.

I read the article you have on making your own laundry detergent, and a definitely going to try that.  Keep up the good work on your blog & forums!!

Hi, everyone.  Isn't this a comfy, feel at home blog?  I've never registered for a forum before, but I've been reading the blog for several months.  Let me introduce myself.  My name is Deanna, I'm 61 and single, and I'm an elementary special ed. teacher.  I plan on retiring at the end of June.  Lots of mixed feelings about that, but I'm going to be a FARMER!!  Kind of, sort of.

I live in north central WV on a 24 acre farm on the side of a hill.  My family, the Crites family, has lived in WV for 240 years.  I found out not long ago that the family has lived for so many years right here on this hill that it's know locally as Crites Hill.  Plan on joining the D.A.R. this summer – thought that might be a cool legacy for my daughter and granddaughter.

I have two children and two grandchildren.  My daughter teaches Math at the high school and my son works construction and remodelling.  Grandson will be a senior next year and granddaughter will start middle school.  Where did the years go??  Also have 3 dogs and 3 cats.  My 80 year old mother lives next door and I help care for her.  She is the most amazing person I've ever met and she's my best friend.  Both of us are avowed hermits.

My interests are pretty low-key.  I love to read, love to bake when I have time, spend a lot (too much) time surfing the net.  And I love camping, being outside, riding my 4-wheeler.  Cleaning house, not so much.  Priorities, you know.  See you on the blog!

hey there wonderful chicken road people.  i was asked to do the intro so here goes…i come from generations of dairy and horse folks from vermont and this love for land and animals stuff must be in the blood.  i live in wonderful wv.  was blessed in finding our farm in 2002 after a 4 year search.  hard to find good land around here that is affordable.  i am the mother of 13 animals and 25+ wild deer that feed on corn each evening. thankfully my good husband was raised on a farm and understands.  i compete in novice eventing and love riding and jumping.  have two horses, 4 dogs, 7 cats; all are strays ( not the horses) and most just arrived at the farm starved for food and love.  no chickens yet ( am working on that…good husband says 'NO!' and thinks they are 'dirty'.)  i absolutely love farm blogs and farm photography.  thank you for having such a beautiful blog!

Hi!  I've been coming to Suzanne's site for quite some time.  The first place I go in the morning when I'm on the computer.  Love it :)

My name is Angie.  I am a medical transcriptionist who works at home.  My DH retired from the USN 13 years ago and unfortunately still has to work – LOL  Our daughter moved back home with us last year getting ready to have twins!  We have twin granddaughters who will be 9-1/2 months on Monday, Sadie and Elena.  They are the joy of our life and keep us very busy along with everything else!

I look forward to getting to know you better when I have a chance to jump on!

Thanks, Suzanne, for the great site!

Hi I'm Margie from margiesbooboo fame.  booboo is one of my cats, vet said he was gonna die w/n 3 months close to 5 years ago!  i'm married, 2 adult kids, the boy is married no kids and the girl is still in college.  married a good man, he works hard and always has and he takes care of me to the best of his abilities.  we've been married 25 years this summer.  we're both 52 this year, his health is good, mine hit the skids last year.  i've been dealing with arthritis since the boy was born, but last year it knocked off my feet.  its been a few months getting better, don't know where i'll end up but aren't we all a work in progress?

found suzanne's blog before she had a forumn.  really makes me homesick.  we live in st. louis now, but i'm from southern wva.  i pine away for the hills. we have 3 cats, 1 dog and a couple of birds, i'd love to have a farm with sheep and donkeys and cows and CHICKENS!  took the girl to maui for spring break and they have WILD CHICKENS IN THE ROAD EVERYWHERE!  one town has peacocks wandering around.  thats what suzanne should get next is peacocks or at least some guinnee (don't know how to spell that obvisously) so she won't have to worry about snakes or ticks!

latest upshoot about the arthritis,  didn't ask dr for permission to fly, just did it.  he wants me to stay in the bed, i really had to force myself out and about with the girl.  now, dr took biospies, apparently he thinks i've contacted some new crud while i was out chasing whales and wild chickens.  anyway, the dang stitches have pulled through on one side!  pondering that.

oh yeah, i'm a quilter, big time accumilator of stuff that goes with quilting.  also i do cross stitch and the more delicate specilaty stitches. (some reinactment kinda stuff)  i know what would happen if i ever learned to weave.  i'd have sheep, llamas, fields of cotton.

thanks for putting up with my rambling intro.

huggs,

My name is Katey. I am 48 and the mother of 3 boys (well men) 29, 23 and 23. Yes, identical twins. I have two grandbabies so far, Kaitlynn is 4 and Skylar is 3. My husband and I are team truck drivers and we have a home in Rose City, TX. It is an old home that we are practicing our DIY skills on. My philosophy is "Try it, even if you are clueless, and failure is always an option"! That is how the term DO-OVER was coined.

Our dream and our mission is to have a farm and live as far off the grid as possible. We have been perusing land sights, interviewing realtors, and are scheduled to start actual site inspections the end of this month. We are looking in West Virginia, Missouri, and Northern Arkansas. Goats, chickens and organic gardening are our goals to start. I have been reading Suzanne's blog for months now, and living vicariously thru her.

Today I am taking the plunge into yet unchartered territory, the world of blogging reply posts. Here we go……..Happy Feet
