Well, I guess I figured it out! :)

I'm 59, with 2 adult daughters and an overactive husband in a tiny house (oh.  and a 24lb cat) :).  Grew up in the city as a country girl, daughter of a country girl who had to move to the city.  I didn't know growing up that canning and preserving with the women was odd for city-folk, just as I didn't know tent camping every single week of the summer was not normal.

So, now, living outside the city, I have my teeny tiny garden which produces lots Blue Lake beans, and my youngest and I make our bread, spin/knit/dye and do our canning/preserving and gardening to our longing-for-larger-garden content.  Planning on chickens next year.

I also work full-time (sigh) as a computer programmer.  Go figure.

And through this website, I FINALLY found my Grandmother's green beans with bacon recipe!!!  WOO-HOO!!

Hi Everyone!!  I'm Karen and I'm a 47 year old (48 in September) mom of two sons, 21 and almost 16.  I am divorcing as we speak, and my youngest son is finishing high school in his hometown.  I live in Greenville, MI at present.  I grew up on a small (80 acres) farm in rural Mid Michigan.  I lived in the suburbs of Detroit for many years after college.  I moved back to my home county for painful personal reasons.  I am working on collecting recipes for my new recipe box, as my old one (stuffed with my grandma's and great grandma's recipes) was lost in a house fire in 2006.  Growing up on the family farm (first started by my great great grandpa Spencer in 1854), I remember picking black raspberries, helping with haying, riding my horse, and helping with the cows.  We were so rich at one time we even had a 3 seat outhouse … LOLsun  I hope to someday soon move back to the country.  My dream is to have enough land for a nice garden, a small barn with a couple of cattle, goats, chickens, and a nice woodlot.  I'd love to have a log home as well, but am I dreaming?  LOL.

Great to meet everyone!! chicken

Welcome Karen, You'll find there are several CITR folks in MI. Hope your divorce takes as little emotional energy as possible and you are soon on your road to that log cabin.

Hi! I'm Deb. I 've been following CITR for a long time, but decided to finally join in.  My husband and I live on a little 5 acre "hobby farm".   We grow a large garden and love to cook.  We mess around with bread, yogurt and cheesemaking.  My husband is a brewer and I'm a soapmaker.  We currently just have a few chickens, but in the past have raised goats, pigs, sheep…you name it! I really enjoy this site and have learned a lot from it!

My name is Amanda. I'm 23 years old (a few wks away from 24) Im married with two kids, a 2 year old boy and a 5 month old little girl. We live in a little town in Vermont. I love living a simple life that we have here. I always dreamed of owning a farm, living off the land and raising our own cattle. But I met an electrician and the rest is history ;)

I work full time at a pretty awesome job. Im as close to a hermit as possible, but I do venture out every now and then.

I just started my fatten hobby of baking & cooking (from scratch, of course). I think Ive gained 10lbs this week, hahaha. I just got a sewing machine, Im looking to start quilting in my free time. Winters are pretty boring here if you arent a snow bunny.

My mother got me HOOKED on this website when I asked her for a corn bread recipe

Hi,I'm Patty and I live in Preston County in West Virginia.
I have two adult children and four beautiful grandaughters.

I'm 55 as of this past July. Old enough to get some of those discounts eating
I enjoy gardening, crafts, baking, reading, and long walks in the woods.

I found this forum while searching for a recipe for hot peppers in tomatoe sauce like the local Oliverio's. The link was dead no

Looks like a fun place with helpful people.

I'm still searching for that recipe as I have ripe tomatoes and peppers that need preserving.
I'll be back to share with you soon.

sleepy-cowHi, I just found this site while looking for a recipe for homemade Hamburger Helper. Need to find a way to use up ground beef in the freezer, before the next cow comes from the processor.

I live in SC on a farm that has been in my family for more than 100 years. We have many family members living on this farm, "commune". I have finally been able to retire and do what I love, FARM.

I have sheep, cows, chickens, cats ,dogs, turkeys, and llamas. I  have a garden, and love to put up all the good things the land has to offer.

Spinning wool is something I would like to learn to do.

Well enough about me, I need to start making Hamburger Helper for dinner.

Hi I am Brenda.  I am at that age that I can only admit my age for one more year . . . that's right . . . 49!  Can't believe I am nearing 50, as I still feel like a young, floundering wife and Mama!  I have been married to my best friend Ron for almost 22 years and we have three sons ages 20, 19 and 17.  Right now they are at the "cross roads" in life, where they keep us on our knees a lot!  We love them so, but I look forward to the day they are all "settled in" to a life that God wants for them.  We live on 10 acres in Spokane, Washington in a little rural area called Orchard Prairie.  This area has the oldest still functioning school house and school district in Washington.  We bought this place 2 years ago after it had stood empty for 2 years.  It is an old 1898 farmhouse on 10 acres in rolling wheat fields.  I hosted a large antique show here in August with over 35 vendors and 700 attendees.  We plan to make it an annual event.  We have 17 chickens (I think . . . we have taken in a few "strays" as of late), a multitude of barn cats and a sweet old dog named Tilley.  I love decorating, especially in the prim and farmhouse style, creating primitive furniture from old barnwood, old doors, windows, etc. and know my way around power tools. happy-flower  We are very involved in our church and have a Bible study here once a week.  We also help with the church youth group and I work in the church coffee shop and Ron plays the drums.  Our life is very full and filled with blessings.

Looking forward to getting to know each of you! sun2

With Farm Fresh Blessings,

Brenda

Hi Everyone! I have been following Suzanne's blog for almost 2 years now. I went to the retreat this last weekend and decided I needed to join the forums. I have been married for 15 years and live on 2 acres with my husband and our 3 childrens. The kids are ages 15, 13, and 1. Yes, you read that correctly, 1. We have a 12 year gap between our middle and youngest. I can't wait to "talk" to all of you more and hopefully connect with the people I met at the retreat. happy-flower

Hello! I have been a member for a few weeks but never introduced myself. I am Kim McCoy from Williamsburg Virginia.  I have three daughters, a hubby, a beagle-shar pei, and 4 frogs.  I am so loving this site and so glad that I found it!! We have a cabin in Mineral County in West Virginia so I really need to look at a map to see where exactly these retreats are held because I would love a girls weekend out in WV and visit with Suzanne!!  Thanks for all the great info that ya'll give…I am learning so much!
