OfflineI live in southcentral Kansas outside of Wichita. We live in the country and enjoy the peace and quiet here. I practice emergency preparedness, so do a lot of canning, dehydrating, buying in bulk, and cooking from scratch. I just found this blog tonight and was happy to find a lot of recipes for mixes of all kinds. I will have my first container garden this year, and have started purchsing seeds. I will be using the plastic buckets that kitty litter comes in for my containers.
We have 2 very big dog pens that I would like to combine and build a chicken coop. I would like them to free range, but we have wild dogs and cyotes, so they would not last long without protection. I am considering building a chicken tractor, so I could move it around to prevent them scratching the grass bare. At night I would move them back to the protection of the pen and coop. Anyone else keep chickens for eggs and meat ???
I am just learning to make cheese. I am starting with cow's milk, but would also like to find a source for goat's milk and sheep's milk for other types of cheeses.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Wishing you warm homes and full larders ![]()

OfflineHello All..I live in Northeast Ohio, we live on 5.5 acres, nearby a very large Amish community. What once was considered very rural, is starting to build up the last few years. We loved it when we'd only see 5 cars pass by the house..that's all changed.

OfflineHey everybody! I am just south on Indianapolis in Mooresville, IN. Everyone I know says I'm crazy when I say Suzanne has my life!! Someday I will have my goat's, greenhouse and chickens…for today it's bills and work and kids, sigh. At least now I can bake awesome bread, and I made my own container candles, and wreaths for everyone for Christmas out of pinecones I scavenged from my work parking lot! All these things keep me sane in the meantime until I get the whole- buy land and have a farm- thing worked out. Thanks everyone, it means alot to me!

OfflineHi all!! I'm new here so I thought I'd start off by sharing where I'm from! Born & raised in southern Maine. I grew up on the coast, in a 1800s farm house on 20 acres on the saco river. I have lived my entire life on a farm and strongly feel it is the only way of life for me! As a kid I had pretty much every typical farm animal (except llamas bc they freak me out) and always had home grown food. Now that I am grown I live roughly 40 minutes from the coast on an acre of land on the saco river with my partner and our 2 sons. Our dream is to farm this acre as best we can and teach our children the joy of home grown food & all the wonderful aspects of farming & its rewarding hardwork. We bought the house in 2010 and this will be the first year we have a garden and add to our animals (i was hugely pregnant last spring/summer and my hubby works so ya, hoeing and weeding a garden just WASNT happening!!)We currently have 2 goats, a cat and a dog but plan on expanding to chickens, ducks and I REALLY want a lamb and to breed my female goat (yay for furry babies!!) , Mae. Anyway, I have grand plans that require more than an acre, but this is our jumping off point and were jumping in with both feet :)
We live in southwest Missouri on a l75 acre farm. We raise Black Angus cattle, I have a milk cow, Willow, we have a dog and lots of outdoor cats! I also have chickens.
We are very close to Springfield, Mo., Greene Co. just north of I-44.
I started a small orchard; have a berry patch and have a garden every year. I also have lots of flowers…..I can and freeze most all of our food and have been making our bread since 2004. I also make all our soap using home rendered beef tallow and lard.
We even have two llamas! We lost some calves to predators and haven't since buying the llama from a neighbor.

OfflineAs my sign in says I'm Stuck in Miami.
I was born at Our Lady of the Sacred Check in Eugene, OR. Spent my summers in Lacomb, OR ( Just east of Lebanon, OR) at my grandparents farm where they raised Santa Gertrudes (beef cattle).
Moved to Portland, OR then back to Eugene for a short stint, and now Miami, FL. (Soon to be anywhere else!)![]()
