Ball Blue Book Giveaway

Mar
16

Jars of strawberry syrup and strawberry-lemon marmalade cooling after coming out of the canner.

Check out how I made my strawberry-lemon marmalade here. (Read through the topic to see how I made it this year.) I love canning, and I love being so comfortable with canning now that I can make my own recipes. Canning is like baking bread is like making cheese is like making soap. It’s all about practice. You get better with each attempt. I love food, and I love canning.

This post is all Ball Blue Book giveaway! See my other, regular, post today in Country Living!

I just finished using up concord grape juice that I froze from last year to make jelly – YUMMY – much better than store bought and I use a less sugar pectin too. Next up is frozen blackberries harvested Summer 2009. I like to make my jams and jellies this time of year because it is still cool outside. Then my kitchen is freed up for all the summer goodies!!

How about a BBB for the girl anxiously awaiting her new pressure canner? If you have any love in your heart for Pete and CindyP, you will pick me. Otherwise I will drive them crazy with all kinds of canning questions. And Pete is already probably going bonkers with all the techie questions I have to ask all the time. Have mercy upon them, Suzanne.

:duck: I tried canning once. I made peach marmelade. It was really delicious, but I ended up throwing out most of it because the jars didn’t seal. I was heart broken! I would love the BBB. Thank you!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
