Photo taken on Speed Road near Spencer, West Virginia, in Roane County.
Isn’t this gate mysteriously romantic? Wonder where it goes????
From yesterday–this year’s Halloween party prize was a jarful of smiley-face gumballs. The kids guessed how many gumballs were in the jar to win the whole shebang.
So, for this weekend’s Free Book Friday, to win an autographed copy of the Avon Red anthology If This Bed Could Talk by Liz Maverick, Kimberly Dean and Lynn LaFleur (signed), guess how many gumballs were in the jar! (Note: this is a half-gallon jar.)
P.S. I’m going away for the weekend to stay with friends in a CABIN WITH NO ELECTRICITY in Seneca Forest. (No kids. Just grownups. AS IF MY CHILDREN WOULD GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY.) I’m going to bake bread in a wood cookstove, freeze my toes off, brave spiders in an outhouse, and pump water from a well. I’m like…a PIONEER!! Or….a lunatic!!!
I’ll report back……..if I survive…….

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

Have a fabulous weekend, Suzanne. Take plenty of great wine and food and you won’t even notice the lack of electricity.

Oh those are the best or neatest gumballs! I’ve never seen them like that. My kids would love them.
Have fun on your weekend!
