Free Book Friday: My Favorite Dolly Parton Quote

Dec
14

Rainbow in Cornwall.

“If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”

That’s my favorite Dolly Parton quote because it reminds me that there is no storm in life that isn’t followed by a rainbow.
:bananadance:

What is your favorite Dolly Parton quote, and why? I’m going to be crazy busy tomorrow so I’m posting my contest early this week. Have fun picking from the quotes here! If you want to add your own favorite quote from Dolly that I haven’t listed, go ahead and do that, too! Random winner chosen on Monday for a Merry Christmas $10 Amazon gift certificate!

Dolly Parton quotes:

–I’m not going to limit myself just because people won’t accept the fact that I can do something else.

–I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb… and I also know that I’m not blonde.

–It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.

–My weaknesses have always been food and men – in that order.

–People make jokes about my bosoms, why don’t they look underneath the breasts at the heart? It’s obvious I’ve got big ones and if people want to assume they’re not mine, then let them.

–Storms make trees take deeper roots.

–We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.

–When I’m inspired, I get excited because I can’t wait to see what I’ll come up with next.

–Yeah I flirt, I’m not blind and I’m not dead!

–You’ll never do a whole lot unless you’re brave enough to try.

–I patterned myself after this woman that was the town tramp back home. She had blond hair and high heels and red fingernails and lips, and to me she was like what movie stars were to other kids. We’d see her, and I’d say, “Oh, look, she’s got plastic goldfish in her heels!” and my mama would say, “She ain’t nothin’ but trash, nothin’ but trash,” and I thought, “Ooh, that’s what I’m gonna be when I grow up — trash!”

    Here’s a Dolly quote I found that I like:

“If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.”

    Pretty cool, huh?

My favourite quote of Dolly’s is

I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb… and I also know that I’m not blonde.

We all know she certainly is not dumb, with all the good she does and money she has made. :)

This one just makes me giggle like mad. :rotfl:

When I’m inspired, I get excited because I can’t wait to see what I’ll come up with next.

But this one really strikes a chord with me. From a creative standpoint. :)

“Leave something good in each day.”

LOL. I used to wish that her and Kenny Rogers would fall in love. They sang so well together! I was hopelessly romantic even back then!

That’s my favorite because I have my fingers in lots of pies. There are so many things I want to do!

I used to see the most beautiful rainbows when I lived in Hawaii.

Hello- speaks to me! I’m determined to live my life that way, just like Dolly. But I gotta tell you- it’s really hard. Somedays it seems downright impossible. Still trying though.

Since today is my birthday and I love rainbows this one is my particular favorite of all. It relates to everything in life and is a wise one.

“If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” is also my favorite quote. I had it up on the wall of my dorm room in college. I love it!

I like: “You’ll never do a whole lot unless you’re brave enough to try.” Definitely speaks to me about having the courage to follow your dreams.

She is a marvelous entertainer – and stopped during the show I saw to talk to a small child who was standing up by the front of the stage.

I love Dolly! I used to watch her on the Porter Wagner show when I was a little girl.
Yeah, I’m old! My favorite and one of her funnier quotes is:

Dolly is so genuine. All her quotes are good, but I like the one that says “My weaknesses have always been food and men, in that order” Gotta love anyone that admits to weaknesses. I have seen Dolly quite a few times as I only live 35 miles from Dollywood and visit the area a lot. She is the real thing on and off stage. Have a great day everyone and a big Christmas hug to all.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
