Free Book Friday: Secrets Rising

May
25

This is my July release, the first in my “Haven” series, Secrets Rising. I had updates done on my site last week and if you haven’t checked out the back cover copy and excerpt, go here, and you can read my Behind-the-Book notes here.

So, tell me what you think of the cover?? It’s very RED, isn’t it? I’m not sure about her shiny shirt–in the book, she is wearing a yellow t-shirt in this scene. I guess they decided that wasn’t sexy enough for the cover. But this is a scene from a cellar. And yet she looks as if she’s headed for a disco bar…. And the hero–isn’t his chest bare? How did that happen? Hmm. But, I like it overall. He’s cute. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Up for grabs this weekend from the May Silhouette Romantic Suspense releases: Shadow Warrior by Linda Conrad. Let me know if you want it!

  1. Marianne says:

They look like they’ve been caught in the middle of something… I often wonder about cover artists and their reasoning behind what they do.

In any case, I need to go read up on this new series of yours.

And, yes, of course I want the book! Happy weekend :woof:

  2. Stacey says:

I love the back cover blurp. I’ll have to put this on my wishlist.

    *Cute cat pictures*

I would like to be put in for the drawing.

    Have a great Memorial weekend!

  3. Crystal B. says:

I think the cover is nice even if it has a lot of red.
Yes, I would love to read Linda’s book. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Minna says:

He looks a bit like a newscaster from one of the Finnish TV channels.

  5. Kathleen says:

I will definitely notice that book cover on the store self! I like it!

And that is a book in Linda’s series I have not read yet and I would love to win it ! Please include me in the drawing !!!

  6. Susan says:

I guess cover artists don’t care whether the cover matches the story. :fryingpan: I still like it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I would like to be put in for the drawing too.

  7. Cheryl S. says:

You have to ask? Yes, please put me in the drawing for the book. And even if it doesn’t match the scene, I like the cover.

  8. Maureen says:

I like the cover but I think I would be shocked if the cover of a book I was reading ever looked exactly like the story. I would love to win the book. Have a great weekend.

  9. Phyllis Lamken says:

The heroine is gorgeous. Love the red hair. Actually a yellow t-shirt would have been more flattering than the red. The cover is a bit too red. Too bad the hero’s chest is so smooth….Looks like he waxes it, like a Vegas stripper.

Have a great weekend!!!! I would love to be included in the drawing.

  10. catslady says:

Well it’s a great cover but I too don’t understand why they can’t make it look something that is really in the book – I think a sexy yellow t-shirt would have worked lol.

  11. Karen B says:

Love the cover – want the book! :flying:

  12. Tori Lennox says:

As you know, I think the book sounds great! But I do frequently wonder what cover artists have been smoking….

  13. Teresa W. says:

Sounds like a great new series and I like the cover! Count me in for the drawing.

  14. Dru says:

I like the cover and the blurb. I can’t wait to read it.

  15. Angie T says:

Ah, Suzanne. Just how often does the cover ever really match the story or the characters, even?
And like my DH says, “For a dollar more, she coulda got a red blouse!”
Meaning of, course, that is one red blouse!!

And I’m interested in Linda’s book!

  16. Brandy says:

I’ve been lurking for a bit over a week, but wanted to say the back cover copy sounds great. Can’t wait to see it in the stores and pick it up!

  17. Rachelle says:

Awesome cover! The girl model is very expressive..but I dunno with the guy, he seems pleased (or is it just me?) :fryingpan: . Shouldn’t he look a bit daunted or something? I like the color scheme, as a fashion guru would say it’s “dyed to death in red” and really looks great! Suspense=blood=red… very nice! :woof:

  18. Alice Audrey says:

You mean you didn’t write in a naked-chest scene just for the cover artists? Shame on you.

    Alice

  19. Ellen says:

The cover is nice – the models very attractive. I’ve read books where the heroine has short blonde hair, but the cover model has long dark hair. Go figure. ๐Ÿ˜•

I’ve pre-ordered Secrets Rising, and can’t wait to read it! If you haven’t drawn yet for Shadow Warrior, count me in.

  20. Ruby55 says:

I like the cover. But they do look as if they’ve just thrown on some fancy peignoir and smoking jacket. Certainly not fit for exploring a basement.

And the excerpt sounds fascinating as well. Lots of weird stuff going on. Wow. And over a month still to wait. No fair.

The book certainly seems to have been inspired by your present location and your ancestral roots. From what you’ve shown us in your pictures, the scenery is next to Heaven. Is that where your idea for the name “Haven” came from? Or is this area a real haven for you?

Anyway, can’t wait till the book comes out and I hope the next ones won’t be too long in coming either.

    I’d love “Shadow Warrior” too.

Forgot you guys have Memorial Day this Monday. We had Victoria Day last Monday, which now amounts to the monarch’s official birthday celebration. Our weather wasn’t bad last week compared to the start of this weekend which has been rainy and cooler than the rest of the week. There were even days when I could have used my new :fan: . But I still have to figure out how to put it all together.

  21. alissa says:

Striking cover which does generate a great deal of interest. Love the ecerpt.
