A Joy to Behold

Aug

These people keep their garden right by the road.

I’m pretty sure they do that just to be mean. They are such show offs!

I’ve been stalking this garden for years.

It’s my favorite garden in all the land.

Despite, or maybe because, they keep it right by the road where I can enjoy its neat and tidy rows every time I drive by.

I don’t have to do a lick of work in this garden and yet it looks perfect all the same.

A weed would not dare grow in this garden.

Here’s what this garden looked like earlier in the season:

Neither rain nor heat nor gloom of blight stays these gardeners from the swift completion of their appointed harvest.

This garden is an object of affection, a source of envy, a means of inspiration, and method of self-flagellation. Mostly, it is a joy to behold.

Someday, I shall have a garden like that!

Right after I buy that house.

Oh yeah, but I bet they don’t have a CLover or Giant Puppy or gobs of chickens and a milk cow! I’ll bet they see all that and envy you!!!

  2. CATRAY44 says:

Noooooo! We love your house and garden, however it grows!

  3. Johanna says:

Looks like the gardens in the Amish area around Shipshewana Indiana. All the lines are straight, the corners are square, and everything grows beautifully. They really are lovely.

But Suzanne, our gardens have their own special charm, right?!

  4. Tabitha says:

buy the house and pay people to tend it—at least for me, lol

That’s the garden here the guy was slaving away earlier, right?

Lovely. We worked in our garden this morning to get it looking a bit more presentable. It was looking like quite a jungle.

That garden was planted and tended to just to make all of us jealous. If you look closely, some of the plants are fake and came from Michaels–right???

  8. Mia says:

don’t cha hate that? ::laughing:: But it does seem that the people in that area take great pride in makin’ their gardens beautiful. I dunno why, but they are 🙂 They’ll never have competition from me… I just hope to make friends with somebody who has one 🙂

I have garden envy too. I can’t get over the PERFECTLY straight rows, the generous spacing, the total lack of weeds… ONE DAY I too will have a garden like that…one day…hopefully, before I die.

Mine is growing and we have eaten well from it this summer, but it’s just not right when you need to take a weedeater to most of it to get it back in line.

I look forward to winter when it will be a blank slate again. There’s always next year… It’s good to have goals! :snoopy:

Looks mulched. That’s the secret. Smother the entire garden with a barrier, like cardboard, then keep adding inches of mulch every year and throughout the summer whenever it needs it. You won’t have any weeds. I have a mulched garden like that and it really works.

My other gardens are a real mess, however. Its a jungle out there right now!

  11. MAYBELLINE says:

    It simply takes work.
I’m sure they don’t mean to make you envious. Just take it as motivation.

Wow that was fun to read. I was recently talking to someone I hadn’t seen in years and I mentioned that another old friend and I were avid gardeners and she said……….I have my a garden spot but I can buy a can of green beans cheaper than I can grow them. I changed the subject because with that answer, I knew I could never make her understand ……….

  13. Crystal says:

They must have awesome compost :chicken:
