I am happy to address you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of gingerbread men.
Five score years ago, a great cookie, in whose symbolic shadow I stand today, declared all dough to be created equal. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of cookies who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice.
But one hundred years later, the gingerbread man still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the gingerbread man is still sadly crippled by the manacles of sugared icing and the chains of ornament hooks.
One hundred years later, the gingerbread man lives on a lonely branch of inanimate balls in the midst of a vast forest of pine needles. One hundred years later, the gingerbread man is still languishing in the corners of cookie society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So I have come here today to dramatize the shameful condition of the gingerbread man, baked to be hung on trees and discarded.
Now is the time to lift our frosted arms from the quick sands of injustice to the solid cookie jar of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s cookies. This frozen winter of the gingerbread man’s discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating spring of freedom and equality.
I have a dream that one day this recipe will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident–that all dough is created equal. I have a dream that one day in ovens across America gingerbread men and snickerdoodles will be stacked together in the cookie jar of brotherhood.
I have a dream that my little crumbs will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the shape of their cutter but by the content of their measuring spoons.
And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every baking sheet and every mixing bowl, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s cookies–drop cookies and shaped cookies, pinwheels and bars, chewies and snaps, will be able to join spices and in the words of the old cookie spiritual, Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

BTW, I made gingerbread ornaments for our tree(moons and kitties), and our 9 months old (lunatic) puppy ate EVERY SINGLE ONE off of the tree! So now we have twig star ornaments, orange slice/cinnamon ornaments, and cinnamon stick ornaments. And that is it! Lol! Crazy dog!

Got to love that Clover, her idea and mine of a balanced diet are the same–a cookie in each hand!
