The farm is awakening to spring.

Chickens peck in the gardens, bounce across the grass shaking dust from their feathers. It’s spring, and it’s good to be a chicken.
IMG_7703
Dogs bound across the fields, dancing in the sunshine and new season. It’s spring, and it’s good to be a dog.
IMG_7694
My calf frolics in the meadow, discovering warmth and wildflowers. It’s spring, and it’s good to be a calf.
IMG_7731
Goats graze on new green, green grass, reveling in the relief from winter’s cold and dry hay. It’s spring, and it’s good to be a goat.
IMG_7715
Horses roll on their backs in the pasture, drinking in freedom like water. It’s spring, and it’s good to be a horse.
IMG_7749
Fencelines beam under the bright sky….
IMG_7736
Trees bud….
IMG_7690
Rocking chairs beckon….
IMG_7688
Cows moo….
IMG_7718
And sheep baaa.

It’s spring, and it’s good to be living on a farm!

Hang on – I’m headed your way! Woke up to a little snow on the ground this morning (this after yesterday’s thunder/rain/hail storm) and we’re expecting more snow today. Spring? WTH is that?

This is a great post…LOVE the pictures! Especially the first one, of the farm from the road. I really shows the perspective of the barn to the house. I thought they were much closer together.
Are those beautiful pink trees redbuds? Lovely!

It’s a wonderful blog post. You do need to make a few farm related children’s books. You’ve got the great prose and photos!

This reminds me of a spring poem by Emily Dickinson:

    Bee! I’m expecting you!
    Was saying Yesterday
    To Somebody you know
    That you were due—

The Frogs got Home last Week—
    Are settled, and at work—
    Birds, mostly back—
    The Clover warm and thick—

    You’ll get my Letter by
    The seventeenth; Reply
    Or better, be with me—
    Yours, Fly.

We all recognize you’re ultra busy, the juvie book just a suggestion. Nevertheless, this blog is Imminently suitable for for a Lulu, self-produced, on-demand book with a reading level of preschool to grade 2. (24 page, 6 x 8, soft cover, px on left, 36 pt text on right.) Any Harper restrictions?. . . Publish using pseudonym to distinguish from memoir and other adult writing? In addition to distribution via CITR, Lulu sometimes ships to selected, brand name, bricks-and-mortar stores.
